Self-quarantine plans

I'm in health care and will continue to work as long as possible...or until the apocalyptic stuff hits the fan. In that event, you jolly-jokers are on your own. Supplies on hand at home:

*New Tech 21 Q strip.
*1/2 case Modelo Amber.
*3 pints of Haagen-Dazs Caramel Cone...3 for $10 at the Food Lion with MVP card.
*Cat food...wanna keep him well-nourished in case we have to eat him.
*Microwave popcorn / Ramen noodles...two of the essential food groups.

When all this started in January I pulled out the preparedness shopping list and we have been slowly stocking up each week to have 6 weeks worth of dry, frozen and potable goods on hand in case of a long outbreak. We have stocked up on medications as well. Luckily we can get perishables and other needs delivered. My wife and I are both in risk categories will ride it out if it comes to that.

I've built up a reasonable stock of supplies to last me for at least two weeks. If (read: when) the school district closes and I am out of work, I won't have any options. My wife works at a hospital, which will open as a crisis center. We won't be totally underwater, but things will not be pretty.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. Best of luck to your wife. Mine was handed new protocols today. The town we live in has no “official” cases yet, but we’re anticipating it and she works at a relatively small hospital that will likely see a flood of at risk cases in the coming weeks. How this plays out for my family is unpredictable at best. I can point a finger in any direction now where there are official cases within 100mi or less, so it’s inevitable if all the info is factual. The town I work in has 2 official, the town my boss lives in has 3 and I’m just over an hour north of New Rochelle.

I can't imagine what a month's worth of beer supplies would look like.

Hearing the government's response to the coronavirus makes me think there is a good chance self-quarantine might be happening, so I've been thinking what I would do for two weeks at home.

Considering I still have lots of vacation, I'm thinking I would work from home for a week and take the other week as vacation to have a massive uninterrupted practice session, the kind I had when i first started and was eager to learn faster. I still have a couple of Janek Gwizdala's books I haven't touched and I'm still chipping away at some of Steve Bailey's So Low, Solo album transcription.

Anyone else have plans in case the figurative &#!% hits the fan?

We have a rather large rock in our backyard we are planning to hide under. We are also starting bonfires, firing canons to thwart off this plaque, and I’ve been bled twice as a preventative measure.....sorry wrong century...

Seriously, I’m retiring at the end of the month, and the wife has done a great job of obtaining enough provisions for a long period of isolation. I only have one gig, this weekend until May, so I’ll be mostly at home working on the yard and my chops.

This is frankly negligent and shocking (but sadly, probably pretty common).

Most schools in the US that aren’t collegiate are pretty much handling it the same way as of today.

if you're going to wipe down your counters, how about your door knobs, part of your doors you touch coming home and light switches that you turn on before you wash your hands?

and always wash your hands after handling money or cards that are always touching your cash. i cut down my illnesses dramatically by doing that and using wipes on shopping carts. used to average 5 illnesses per year; after i made those changes, down to two per year, and those are mostly from my husband's job where he has to talk to sick coworkers face to face in small spaces.

Yep. It’s a pretty exhausting existence for the foreseeable future.

I drive a germ farm for a part time job. (School bus). I'm amazed I haven't been killed by some virus already...or been beaten to death by a hoard of over-sugared elementary school thugs. ;)

We had our first case reported locally so now everyone is getting all serious... I'll just wash my hands and tell people if they get a little handsy towards my bass "no don't touch it, well no, don't even point at it...and no... don't even look at it...

I don't agree with that based on my direct evidence, but am happy to be corrected. Do you have evidence of this? Where I am there has been plenty of planning for potential shutdowns, home schooling etc, and class field trips have been cancelled and assemblies cancelled or reworked. Not to mention all Catholic schools in Marin are already closed, and my buddy's kids schools in Seattle are already closed for "2-5" weeks.

Key words: “where you are”.

Of course there’s been planning. The only problem is that faculty (particularly teachers) are the last to know outside of “prepare lesson plans for x amount of days”. My sister teaches, my sister in law teaches, my mom teaches part time for a district with two reported cases. All of them have been told proceed as usual until further notice outside of bulking up lesson plans. That includes assemblies and after school activities (which will undoubtedly change within the next 72hrs). There are cities across the country large and small that are choosing to close, but untold numbers are continuing just as I described as of about an hour ago.

I think this is the key phrase for you, as well, but you seem not to be aware of it when you say things like "There are cities across the country large and small that are choosing to close, but untold numbers are continuing just as I described as of about an hour ago." Although I guess when you use such an imprecise adjective as "untold", you really aren't saying much of anything.

EDIT: And I realize I sound confrontational, but I just feel like now is not the time to extrapolate fake facts from experience in one district. I don't think I did that in my post - I gave specific examples and welcomed correction. Your examples just show that things are being handled differently in different places, which does not lead me to believe that one or the other approach is prevalent. If I want fake facts, I certainly know where to look, and it's not TB.

I could have said “based on my direct evidence”, but I chose less learned tact. You’re welcome.
