Simon Gallup played semis for awhile with The Cure, then he jumped ship and went the Thunderbird route and he now plays Schecter Thunderbird like basses.

and his spiritual predecessor, Ronnie Lane...
Colosseum was a somewhat overlooked British prog/jazz/rock band made up of former John Mayall players;
Tony Reeves was the bassist...
Just for the recording of the "Hey Joe"/"51st Anniversary" single(as it was early on, and before he had the dosh to buy the J-bass)Noel Redding used Chas Chandler's Epiphone Rivoli; rumour has it that it was actually Chas who played on "Joe", having rerecorded the part after Noel left the studio. Certainly there are pix of the JHE's earliest gigs with Noel and the Epi, but it certainly wasn't the first time for Jimi...
I don't know how extensively Entwistle used this rare Ric in the studio, but he's styling with it on TV..
He had been seen with EB-2's and a Gretsch hollow body early in the Who's career.
Aaah, more TV lip-synching(with a Baldwin)...
And then there's this heavyweight with a Gretsch(?)...

(Chester Burnett was a big man: made a Strat look like a ukulele. Marshall Chess Jr. used to hang around his dad's/uncle's studio when he was a kid. I heard somewhere that he said that when Wolf would shake with him it was like watching your hand disappear into a catcher's mitt. Burnett is said to have been a really nice guy in person but was definitely a formidable presence on stage.)

Who used them? Yes, you're right, The Who used them. Johnny E played Rickenbacker 4005s for a few years.
I do too. I have a Gretsch White Falcon that I love to bust out whenever possible. I consider it manditory for blues and oldies gigs. But I really love the look on people's faces (especially metalheads) when I burn through heavy rock on it. Sounds awesome!
