Double Bass Settings for GK amp

Best one I have used is the trusty Fishman Pro Platinum Bass preamp. It's a very popular preamp / DI. This one has everything you need all in one box, minimal overall coloration (some, but in a good way) and a good DI. The Phase switch and hi-pass filter ("depth control") are great feedback fighters, and the EQ is optimised for bass. Sounds great before an amp, as well as direct and has a pre / post for the DI.

I found a used Sansamp Bass DI for $50. This is the original one that has only internal trim controls -- blend, drive, presence and output. But it seems to work just fine for me. One thing I noticed about the Para Driver is that there's no blend control. (but there is on the Bass Driver DI. ??) I usually like to use about 40-50% straight signal. On this one I just bought used, I have the drive at a little less than half way, the blend 50/50 and the presence at 75%. The active tone circuit seems to have some of that mid-scoop built in. It sounds quite good with the Underwood and Animas. So now I'm ready for the "no amps onstage" bluegrass gigs

Q: How many bluegrassers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Five. One to screw in the bulb, and four to complain that it's electric.

I have an MB150 that I use with a fishman platinum EQ. I find I get the best sound when I bypass the GK eq entirely and use the Fishman as the preamp/eq. You can do this by plugging the fishman eq into the return input on the right hand side of the amp panel. You can also pull a signal off the eq for the PA; there's a direct out on the eq, too.


I'm still experimenting, but so far this works best for me.
