    • SBL:TAP - Covered the descending lines speed building technique lesson. I'm dropping farther and farther behind the actual lesson pace, but I'm taking more time to focus on this stuff, so in the end, I think it'll turn out quite well. I'm not worried about keeping pace with the class; I'd rather progress when I feel like I've gotten a handle on what I'm working on.

  • Today was the first day I managed to pick up the bass. I fooled around a bit for about an hour with both exercises as well as some songs and noodling. Nothing serious so I won't be recording the hour but I still want to get back to writing the log down. Fun fact: COVID is not a fun time. I'm still recovering so I probably won't be picking up with three hours a day right away, but little bits at a time will get me back into shape in no time at all! :)

Hey. I'm just dropping in to say hi and all that. It's been a tough time motivation-wise for everyone (and I've kind of fallen off of the wagon, gotten back on, questioned my motivations and life choices, and now I've kind of just been messing around in general) and I hope you're doing well. I feel as though it's hard to make real connections during this time (harder than it normally is on a day-to-day basis) and so I don't know if that's hitting you at all. I'm fairly used to it but it does take its toll on me over time.

Haven't been on TB for a little while but I'm glad to see that bass is keeping up with you. Good stuff, keep it up. (And no worries if you don't. I get it.)

Man, I'm awkward tonight. It is what it is, I guess.

Notes & Comments:

  • Felt so good today I really hit it hard. It's actually really impressive to me how thorough the stuff I've been doing with Anthony is in my hands. I'm practicing it still, but it all came back so easily. THat's the mark of progress!
  • @juggahnaught Totally understandable, re making connections. I think as people, we're not used to not interacting face to face for so long and I, personally, find it hard to connect with people over video or whatnot, so that was certainly affecting me as well - feeling like most of my interactions were superficial or just work related. Things have relaxed a bit here and I'm excited to see my close, close friends again now that I'm better - so hopefully you'll see something like that where you're at soon, and hopefully it'll help. As for bass, sometimes life gets in the way and you can't/won't/don't have the will to do it. I was never in the motivation camp because I know, for myself, that if I wait for motivation I will literally not do anything but play video games. haha. So I rely on discipline to get me through all the stuff... but even that fails when you get sick or whatever. So, hang in there, brother. It's been crazy times these past few months and whatever/however you're feeling about it... totally normal. Not awkward at all, man, and know that I too hope you're well, keeping safe, and hopefully, looking forward to when things turn around. :)

    • SBL:TAP - Lesson 11 - Today was about speed building exercises ascending & descending and how to focus on the transitions. The exercises seem pretty in depth and quite good actually, so I'm probably going to spend two weeks on them. We'll see.

Notes & Comments:

  • Set 3/4 for the dexterity exercises were pretty rough. I'm going to focus on those for a few days before I go back to two string versions of the exercise. I also keep forgetting to lower the metronome to 40/20bpm so I'm going to work on bringing that into the practice.

  • Lesson
    • Bassology - Today we did a quick review and then tackled, 4-step variations, time displacement, as well as five-step groupings.
    • SBL:Fretboard Accelerator - I signed up for the SBL Fretboard Accelerator. I've actually been getting a LOT of value from the Technique Accelerator course so I figured even if I get 50% of that, it'll be worth it. I'm going to have to stagger the lessons, however, because it's a lot of lessons. Today I started it, though, and covered some really basic stuff re major triads that was essentially review, but that's ok. Looking forward to see some of the stuff we'll be covering in the later modules.

Notes & Comments:

  • There's a lot of stuff to practice. I think what I'm going to have to do is reduce everything to 10 minutes, and then really focus in on one thing each day.

    • SBL:FA - Completed the first module which is the major triad in a variety of forms.

Notes & Comments:

  • I sprained my left wrist working out Friday so I had to take it easy over the weekend. Today I worked for about an hour slowly, and carefully, stopping if there was pain. Hoping to get back into it fully by the end of the week, but I'm not gonna push it.

Notes & Comments:
  • My wrist is finally feeling better. I had to stop for a few days because I didn't want to push my injury further. I did do some memorization work that I probably should have logged, but.... oh well.
  • Took it very slow and easy, with lots of breaks, today to ramp back up. Some of the stretches at the lower end of the bass were.... not painful, but not as comfortable as they usually are. I'm keeping my wrist in a wrist brace most of the time so that's really helping, but of course, not during bass practice.
