Should I Lend out my Rig?

And if by chance they do take it, call the cops and send them to retrieve the stolen property.

Many times legal ramifications and court costs are the only things that get people's attention to understand the situation.

Yes, a stolen amp, at a frat party, with a good chance that one or more of the band members are under 21. I am sure the police would be quite curious about that.

Update.

I remembered their WiFi password for the house we are renting the space out of ;)

Anyways, it's one hour before their gig and so far no one has showed up for the gear. The drumset is still here, too. Apparently they didn't need the gear that badly...

More as it comes up.

i personally would not lend my gear to some one i dont know. secondly playing in a band with someone you dont trust is a huge mistake, i used to be in a band were the singer was someone you couldnt trust at all (he was a cronic liar) he was extremely talented and we were very popular and toured alot. the band fell apart after we found out he was stealing money from the band. i felt like a fool can you imagine actually getting signed to a music label and signing a contract with someone like that? you play music because you love it and should play with people that you enjoy being with. it doesnt sound like you really enjoy this persons (the guitarist) company that being said if you like the drummer it might be time to find a new guitarist. the odds of making alot of money playing music are small so IMHO it is more important to enjoy the music you are playing and the musicians you are playing with.

Peace
Dave

Why not just take the head? It's only a few pounds, and without it your guitarist won't try to take the cab.

This is what I ended up doing.

I got to the place a little before 1 and was shocked to find everything still there. As such, I decided to just sit around and practice until someone showed up. Well, an hour later (and an hour before their gig) no one has shown up. I then remembered I actually knew the houses WiFi password so I got online for that update and right after I sent it I heard someone on a phone outside the door saying what sounded like, "Who has a key to the door?" I figured that it was one of the guys in the band, but since I didn`t want to be confrontational if he started asking questions about my rig I kept quiet and started quietly packing up my head (an idea I got from the above quote).

Anyways, I waited around a little bit until it sounded like the voice was leaving the floor our space is on and very quietly I stepped out of the room, locked the door again, and snucked out the back with my head, power cable, and speakon cable. My only wish is that I had thought of that sooner.

i would consider a talk with the guy about the nature of drunk frat boys, the tendency for beer to be sprayed everywhere they congregate ,and your reluctance to have your gear doused with those liquids......

It's unfortunate that it had to come to you sneaking out the back door. If that was the other band there to pick up the drums, it doesn't take much for someone to say: "Hey, the bass rig is here too. Let's grab that as well."

You probably did the right thing sneaking out the back with your head, but it does seem ridiculous that it had to come to that.

Uhmm... am I starting to breed paranoia? :hmm:

All's well that ends well. :)

Now if the guitarist gets back there before you do, he can cogitate about why the head isn't there, when he probably gave permission for the guys in that band to take it.

HA, I say don't say a word about the fact that you have the head.
Let the GuiTard sweat it out for a while, see what develops. Then you will know what kind of "friend" you really have .

So was it the other band in your practice space, and did they take the drums? If so, I agree to let the guitarist sweat it out as to why your head isn't there. Sorry, but he sounds like a douche from what you've described.

Yup, it turned out to be at least one member from the other band and they did end using our drums.
