use the light on your phone I guess. Its the hole on the head. Take a look down and see if the screw looks worn out or not. I suggest this because I doubt u have a 3/16 " wrench handy? Line up your eyes from the bridge towards the headstock and see if the neck is bent either back or forward. If it is, then it needs adjustment. Thats where the wrench and the hole comes in. Actually, the owner should have that wrench. OIne comes with every fender new. Make sure it fits in the hole snugly and that you can turn it both ways.
If there is some slack in the truss rod "nut", the one the wrench goes into, that's not necessarily the end. Often you can unscrew it and pull it out and replace the screw. As long as its loose. If it spins,but doesnt move up or down on the rod, that could be a bad sign. That means the grooves on the rod might be worn out. Then you're looking at a new neck.
Heres a side by side I took after pulling out a worn fender trussrod nut. The seller had used a wrench either too small or too large. It happens a lot with guys who don't know its American measurements, here in Europe.

Make so goddamn sure that you are using the right size... If you zoom in you can see on the new nut that the sides curve a little. Thats why the wrench thats a little too small fits. Then you turn it a few times and suddenly it slips, then youre screwed.(too, hehehehe)
Do you happen to have a picture of the type of wrench you use because that looks inside to me and a little odd

I had a Jazz bass in that color - it looked AMAZING when I put a black pearl pickguard on it!
Play every fret on every string. Any buzzes? Any unacceptably high action? Or does it play pretty evenly everywhere? Do this both unplugged (so you can hear any fret buzz the pickup doesn't reproduce) and plugged in.
Play through an amp (preferably one you're familiar with). Does it sound good like a P-bass should? Controls work?
If it plays well and sounds right, a P-bass at that price is a nice deal.
And I cast my vote for "keep the cat."
So Anyway, I've owned a MIM P bass and a J bass and they were very nice instruments. If you decide to get it, you might want to eventually try some flat wounds on it. A P bass with flats can be a groovy thing.
