Should people go to prison for filing false rape cases?

Some people cannot see the forest for the trees. Some people take a perverse satisfaction in not being able to see the forest for the trees. Some people deny that the forest exists, as they have moved so close to the forest that their heads are located mere centimeters from the trunk of the closest tree. Some people wouldn't know a tree if it slapped them in the face... :o

Ive used it twice in the past, in a moment of frustration, but have removed those members shortly after.
Its not that Im opposed to hearing/reading different viewpoints, but its almost impossible to carry on a discussion with the guy.
I think it might be best for me to put this feature to use at this time.

My concern for those jailed for weed is in the weed thread.

Perfect? With 90% of the people in jail men I am surprise to hear you use the word perfect. Would you please explain.

I am against prisons in general. But fair is fair. A false rape charge is millions of times worse that any "rape" that may or may not have happened. Simply adjust the time served to reflect this discrepancy.

And as I have gone on record many times before eliminating 90 percent of the prison would be a nice start. No nation has the per capita rate of incarceration the US does.

I suggest fines for crimes like "rape". Or as Matt has suggested the alleged victim could apply to the perp for restitution. Just like Matt suggested Mr Dupree do. Absolutely fair. I hope she get's the same amount Mr Duprees false accuser gave him.

If an egregious crime is committed exile to a Coventry would be suitable.
The US has places like Johnson Atoll that could be used for this. We could contract with other nations if an overload occurred.

But jail? I don't support it and I do not want hundreds or thousands or maybe even millions of innocent men rotting in those places.

There's always people like you that follow the mob. Fritz Lang did a great movie about that with theme with Spencer Tracey.

Then there's people like me.

Men in jail gives you someone to feel superior to. I don't need to jail innocent people to feel good.

I'm still trying to get Mr Rik to pin down an intellectually honest and coherent statement. Still....don't know why I do's it :confused:

It's funny how the rhetoric changes once the players shift...remember that thread about that imprisoned kingpin who got two prison guards pregnant?

Ive finally decided to stop trying. Whats the point in having a discussion with someone who cannot even put together a coherent thought? And intellectual honesty... I dunno...

Its funny you mention that. Though I do not recall the thread in particular, that seems to be his tactic in every discussion in which he is at odds with the majority.

Oh, you have a valid point? Lets not acknowledge that while I post another point irrelevent to the topic being discussed.

The pregnant guards were "rapists" and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

I've got plenty of 'em, some of them polar opposite views, so long as they support his..."side".....

I stopped trying a long time ago, but just recently decided, eh, what the heck...

Yeah, I don't know why I'm bothering with a person who can't even string together a coherent sentence. That's the beautiful thing about the internet. You can take stuff back. If he doesn't quote me, I think I'll just go back and delete my last reply to him. It's really not worth my time.

Ha, he must have deleted it, but last night Bawana actually did go as far as to blame the victim and stated that rape was often a case of girls "not being able to control their urges" or something like that. I've never used the Block User feature; however, I usually pull back my posting in threads where he's a dominant poster, because his presence generally causes the level of discourse to plummet into the toilet. I don't have a problem with him having a countering viewpoint, but the weird polemics in which he engages got old really fast. The fact that Matticus, who is usually a pretty mellow, go-with-the-flow guy, is visibly agitated by him is quite telling. Most of my interaction with Bawana has been blowing down strawmen or trying to keep the discussion on track after one of his numerous non-sequiturs. This thread is a beautiful example in that nobody here is denying that false accusations of rape is a bad thing, but Bawana is trying to paint the narrative as being just that. And don't let his rhetoric about being part of the "mob" fool you. Bawana wears his confirmation bias on his sleeve. If some poster presents some equally unsubstantiated crank idea, Bawana commends that person. IME, the people who like to pat themselves on the back for being an "individual" or an original thinker are usually anything but.

And it's been a while, but I've gotten the weird PMs too. I usually didn't respond.
