show off some cheap rigs of doom?

P1010020.gif

Now that is cool

Here is a picture of my cheap rig of doom. Probably not really doom but when I add the 212 it will be doom worthy. $662.00 total investment in this rig so far.

I love this rig. It sounds great.

I was going to post this in the "Show Your Amps" thread, but I'm glad this one popped up because I'm proud of how little money I spent on my rig.

I don't remember the exact prices, but the pre, power amp and conditioner were probably under $600 all together. With the rack it's probably close to $650. Not bad for 1600 watts, which is where the "doom" part comes in. Or, at least more than I'll ever need.

I can't really say how much I paid for the 8x10, because it was sort of part of a trade deal. I got the cab and a VERY used GK 400RB in trade for an $800 van transmission bill years ago. You can do the math any way you'd like. All the pieces were bought at separate times, months or years apart, which helps soften the budget impact.

EA iAmp350 - $400

2 Bill Fitzmaurice Omni 10.5s - $200 give or take

Total - $600

I have only completed one of them. The other O10.5 is in the works, but even with just one....it kills my SWR workingman's 15. Not to mention that thing is stupid heavy. Carrying the iAmp with the omni is a breeze in comparison.

200 watt 70's Kustom bass head - fREE (When the promoter slipped out of the club with out paying us, I walked out with the head)

Fender 2 x 15" bass cabinet with sq. magnets - $150

Sunn 200W Colosium and head (from The Rim Pest) - $100

72 SVT $300.

I can't really quantify the total "cost" because it's built from things I already had on-hand. The MAG300 was $300, and the speakers are out of a 4x10 cab that I paid $200 for, so like what, maybe $400, counting the wood? The only thing I had to buy when I built it was the handles...
It's 4ohms so it's getting full power, and it gets LOUD, too loud for playing in a basement if I want to crank it up that loud. It handles a low B better than my ported Avatar 2x10...

Does it actually sound O.K? I had a friend that took a car stereo, ac/dc transfromer and some 6x9 speakers AND A TOWEL RACK (for a handle) and made a boombox. he was proud, it sounded o.k.

maybe you could start a Frankenstein bass thread with homemade chassis and bass combos or improvised cabinets etc.,..
