thats the greatest thing about old stuff LCW, you can be as young as you are now, and still enjoy the past thru items that were originally made back then, and although 20 something years old already, unless the guitar is one of those wild-child multicolor textured finishes that could possible be considered weird now a days, many, many people still play on their 1950's-1960's-1970's-1980's basses every day

p.s. - my "newest" bass is still 5 years old, the rest of them were made in the 80's and 90's.

Yeah, you get the one thats just a pickup, up close to the neck, which vibrates the strings, nothing near the headstock.

Exactly - I spoke to Maniac Music (the makers/distributors of the Sustainaic sustainer) earlier this week and there's no problem with making the bass version. It's housed in either a Strat single-coil or Humbucker housing right up against the neck (that's one of the reasons I called, to see what the driver was housed in, and if it would be taking up the traditional "neck" position of a bass - I imagine it's simply wound differently for bass frequences) and can function just like the guitar version with the "fundamental" sustain as well as the "harmonic" sustain (the other reason I called).

Man, I should try and work up a mock-up of how this would look - it's going to be a while for financial reasons until I can get it done, but looking isn't cheating...

I've been looking at their site, been really interested in a similar project to yours, for a while, only, I'd probably do it as a shortscale.

Not really, the Kahler is the more well known system, and the easiest to install, is all.

Kahler was the first one, (so I stuck with them) it works and is less invasive as the Hipshot

I've also heard that the Hipshot stretches out it's springs rather quickly with only moderate use, and they must be replaced every few months. :scowl:

For me, besides the überlarge amount of wood that needs to be routed out for the Hipshot, the Kahler simply seems the more... elegant design despite being developed over 25 years ago.
