My first custom from Martin has a katalox board, on his recommendation. I agree that it’s an excellent alternative to ebony.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing old photos of Ken Lawrence instruments with Katalox.
I agree on both points!
I've never actually played an instrument with Kataloz, but it seems like fine stuff. Plus, it looks really nice also!

Upon reading your headless specs over again, I realized that you are going with a thicker, chambered body. What made you go that direction?
That will be cool to see your new instrument take shape.

I'm used to a thicker body with my other basses, and I'd also like to get more air out of the chambering.
Makes sense. I've thought about having a thicker body with a much lighter weight body core sandwiched between two denser top and back layers to try and achieve a similar affect without going chambered or being too heavy. This is an idea on the back burner

Good thing I generally do not like headless basses. 
I like to see what other have, but I have gone back to having beautiful heads on my instruments (I did own two Yamaha headless basses back in the century).

Me too. I've never played a headless before, so it will be more than a little interesting for me to receive mine. Many moons ago, I briefly held a Kubicki Ex Factor 4 (unplugged), but I didn't play bass at the time.

Thank you for releasing me from temptation! I wouldn't want an entire collection of headless, but I have one (different manufacturer) and love it. The two big reasons: first, it's nice and compact, especially welcome when I get crammed onto a small stage. Second, it's almost always in tune when I pull it from the case: standard tuning keys tend to get bumped out of position; not true for those bridge rollers.
I'll tag him when I have the proper photo, but my friend Jochem has amazing taste....
