Nothing was done on a whim ( besides the entire build

Was able to get a ‘58 fsr roasted neck in the classifieds , so I decided to put together a ‘58 Roasted precision parts bass, as luck would have it , Guitar mill had a nice 1 piece roasted swamp ash* body ready to go, it came today
, will have Arcane ‘57 pickups , which if any pickguard should I go with before I start drilling

It was a full Fender part bass, with the exception of a body made by a local luthier based on my original 1968. The neck was an original S8 from 1989, which had the nut narrowed to 39mm, refinished and re-lacquered with a pro relic.
All hardware is USA Fender purchased from Thomann, and reliced by the same luthier. The pickup is a Fender CS62, encased in a white relic plastic cover.
As I said, the body is modeled after my 1968, from one piece of ash, but it is thinner by 2mm compared to the Fender, to make it a little lighter. The same luthier who assembled the whole bass painted and relict the body as well. I was very pleased, but my OCD prevailed in favor of buying a Custom Shop bass, so I sold this one...unfortunately.

@DTF; I just saw your edited post with the attached "wood bezel test" pic. Speaking only for myself, there is no way I would've gone with a wood bezel, especially with that hard angle on the top end. If it were me, I would've…
- …gone with a rounded top, echoing the original routing, with a single, additional pickguard screw on the top center. (re: One that would be covered up if a regular guard was ever installed.)
- Once an acceptable shape was chosen, had WD Music cut a new bezel out of mirrored pickguard material to visually match the bridge.
I thought of a kind of lower third wood thing , cnc lasers are everywhere, the library even I’m definitely going to keep experimenting with the jigsaw
Nice lil' mental exercise, ja? If nothing else, that cool-as-heck grain would certainly outweigh a handful of exposed screw-holes!
Please, keep us informed! I'd love to see what shakes loose in the future!
Fun side-note: There are ways to visually downplay exposed holes. For this "No Guilt", budget fiver I assembled years ago, I just took a black, fine point Sharpie, gently dipped the tip into the holes and a combination of the dye and gravity did the rest. If there's a Sharpie that's a good color-match, it's a fair assumption you could do the same thing, should it strike your fancy.

I thought so, too. For better or worse, I sold it some time ago. This was my second attempt at trying my hands at a fiver. Sadly, I kept getting confounded by the B-string, so I made up my mind that they are just not for me.

To be honest, I'm not really a "fiver" kinda guy. My first attempt at learning my way around a Squier Deluxe Active Jazz V didn't go over very well. However, in light of my having discovered which ergonomic specifications work better for me, the idea of a "No-Guilt Jazz V" had taken root...
