Well, for those who were asking, I did get to put the Whappo, Jr. through its paces this weekend, and it pretty much confirmed my expectations. Mark has definitely met his design goal of a single box that can replace two (or more!) larger cabs. Volume-wise, it did as well as my Mesa Boogie 4x10/Eden 212XLT rig ever did. The sound that your hear when it is quiet (full, balanced sound) stays consistent as you crank it. At first, I thought to myself that it was a bit laid back in the mids, but then I realized that it was just so darn full-sounding. The mids are all there, and cut through just as you would want them to. But you also have excellent low end, which shines through whether you are thumping on a low B, or if you are playing further up the neck. You pretty much always have a nice, thick tone - not just when you are playing on the bottom two strings. And don't think that this will muddy-up the mids. It doesn't. They cut through just fine. I will say that the high end is not as bright as with my EA or Epifani cabs. I know that Mark is obsesses with "No Hiss!", so his tweeters aren't as in your face as some others. However, if you want to hear a little bit more high end, a simple EQ nudge, and there you go. And guess what? Still no hiss! :D

Call me a happy camper. I may, however, still bring a second cab to set on top of my rack to get a bit more going on at ear level (when I have to stand fairly close to my rig). But there certainly is no need to bring a second cab with the Whappo, Jr.

Later, Tom.

ok, 2 questions:

how do you like the DT-10? i saw one the other day and i wandered how effective they are.

and second is, how do you like the ampeg portabass. when i need a new head im gonna be looking for something small because my peavey is abot as heavy as it gets. does the ampeg get the job done or is its main selling point that its small?

thanks

Woo-Hoo....My first Rig after taking about six years off. Just got the pre-amp today and haven't even played through it. I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my cables (hopefully today).

From top to bottom:
Furman PL-8 Power Conditioner
Eden Navigator Preamp
QSC PLX 2402
Epifani 410UL

Basses:
Left- 1989 Fodera Emperor Deluxe
Right- 1987 Fender Jazz Bass Special (converted to fretless).

I'm happy again:D

I like my DT-10 better then the TU-2 that I had. Its pretty effective for me. The only draw back (if it is one) is that the jacks are up on top instead on the sides.

Given the halls I play in (that can seat between 200-400 people), it does the job well. You might the eq a little lacking however, which is why I have the pedal but eq is preferential between person to person. You should try it out before tweaking the eq more then you need to.

I also often use the head as a pre, using the DI out if I don't bring my cab.

Just in case you don't know, according to the Ampeg guy that posts here, they're releasing 550 and 800W models of the head. In case, you need more wattage.

Hope that helps some.

Yes that's an 18". It's the S18D which is the ported version not the S18ED which is sealed for use with ELF/Infra stuff from Bag End.
The PLX is the 3402. I run each channel @ 8ohms. Very clean and plenty of headroom.

Mike
