I just added another 2x10 and 2x12 to my big rig. Here's a picture along with my small rig (the 1x10s under the racks).

Essential elements...Big Rig - Pearce BC-1 or AMP SL-1 preamp into a QSC PLX2402 into three cabinets per channel (a 1x15, a 2x12 and a 2x10). The non-Avatars were built by me.

Small rig - same preamps into a Peavey DPC-1000 power amp into two 1x10s (each has a PAS 10 and Foster tweeter in box that is essentially half of a Goliath II Jr.). Sounds quite good!

After the big stack photo, I decided it was too tall to be tolerated at home...so I went wide. I've included a few other things too, including the EV TL606 cabinet that I haven't quite finished yet. My little Minx 110 combo and some guitar amps are missing from this picture...

Do you have a reference (book) for building your cabs? I have specific size needs and want to build my own but not sure where to look for info.

My rig, finally setup!!!!

coffee-sipper...the 1x15 is an Electro Voice TL-606, a cabinet designed for and loaded with an EVM 15B. The 2x10 is loaded with Celestion 10s from an Ampeg cabinet and the cabinet is a copy of an Ampgeg 2x10. The 1x10s were designed with half the volume of a Goliath II Jr. I haven't measured the tuning frequency of the Jr., but the Goliath IIs that I used to have (with the same speakers) were tuned in the low 30s...so I did the same thing.

I would use WinISD if I was building from scratch. You can download it at something like Invalid Link Removed or www.linearteam.org. There are other programs out there too...or just borrow from Bruce Gavin's extensive (and impressive) work at www.ofgb.org (.org or .net, I forget which).

Jon, it sounds great! Not the greatest sounding rig out there, but it sounds good to me and everyone I have talked to says it's a hell of a good budget rig. The fretless sounds awesome on it too (only bass I HAVE tried out on it). My cat likes it too. He keeps playing with the sheet that is over it.

Great...glad you like it.

thats a good price on a 4x10 too!

I got a digital cam for Christmas, not great, but at least I can take pictures.

RBI preamp
Crown CE 1000
Eden 210xlt
2 Avatar CB112s

I'm really digging the Avatars. They fit the trad.blues music we do pretty well and the pair gets pretty loud.I haul just one to practice and it keeps up real well.

The Eden is a couple of inches deeper than the Avatars but most of the weight is in the front so it's pretty stable. All my cabs are 4 ohm and I run them full range,I don't need to bridge,I can mix and match that way and still get plenty of power.I've got a gig at a large ballroom early February that I'll take the whole rig to but otherwise just the 12s or one 12 and the 210 are enough for anywhere.

Oddio:

It's nice to see a fellow Gearaholic! I've picked up a ton since this shot was taken, but here was my last "Kitchen Sink Rig" photo:

Since then, I have added a VL-110, CX-310, Wizzy 1x12, another T-112, Raezer's Edge Bass 10, Mesa Boogie Diesel Powerhouse, Jr., and a Whappo, Jr. On the amp side, I picked up an iAMP 800. Oh yeah, I also picked up a new digital camera! Sorry about that cruddy pic.

Tom.

I haven't gigged out with it yet (though I am hoping to this weekend). However, I will say that the Accugroove cabs do perform as advertised. Meaning, they are very transparent, and will really let the nuances of your instrument (and potentially your amp) shine through. If the rest of your gear is up to snuff, then yes, the Whappo, Jr. can sound godly. :D

However, if you have any weaknesses in your signal chain (bass=>cord=>preamp=>amp=>speaker cable, or anything else that may apply), you will certainly hear them. Mark uses a very different approach to tweeters, employing two silk dome tweets instead of compression drivers or piezos. So, the high end is smoother and not quite as sparkly as some other cabs. However, I feel that I can hear the high end quite well, although admittedly it doesn't have the high end sheen that Epifani does.

The Accugrooves are so transparent, and have tremendous low end (which is clear, as well as bountiful). I am not sure if the iAMP is the best match for it, just yet. The iAMP 800 is slightly warm, and with the low end "girth" of the Whappo, Jr., I think that the combo may be a bit much. With my rack rig, though, it totally kicks.

Tom.
