Love those old Ampeg fliptops. Always reminded me of a 50's robot for some reason. Not terribly loud, but I was surprised at the claity of the tone, I had expected a boomy mud machine.
As for my rig, it's an abomination composed of my wonderful Genz-Benz/Bergantino setup, some cabs I had trouble selling, and a guitar head I bought to be my guitar amp. The Ox's Sunn thread got me curious, so I plugged the Marshall into my ancient 810. Yee freakin haw! When the band got together, though, it was a little lacking, no real lows and what was heard was the trebly rattly stuff with some boom felt. So I ran the tuner out of the Genz Benz into the Marshall, patched its inputs together, and turned the GB down so it's just reinforcing not dominating. Cool beans. Don't know if you'd consider it biamping, there's 2 amps but no crossover.
The Marshall is an early reissue no loop 100 watt Plexi. It was nearly an Ebay fiasco, opened up the box to find the enclosure smashed to bits and the remains sliding around inside the barely packed box. Cardboard outer box looked fine, no help from UPS insurance due to improper packing, tried to politely contact the seller but he instantly started accusing me of lying and trying to scam him. I'm not sure what I'd be gaining by smashing the case myself and then lying about it, but hey, whatever. Luckily it still worked, after checking prices on empty enclosures I checked with a local music store chain and located the biggest, cheapest head they had, so my Plexi is now in a Crate G600 or somesuch enclosure, with the remains of the front of the Plexi enclosure. Not a perfect fit, but it was cheap and I sold the Crate innards to my nephew...who actually got a pretty darn good sound out of it with a yellow Boss pedal of some kind used to push the input signal higher.
My Mouradian sounded pretty good through the Plexi, more on the muddy side though. My Alembic has never been happier. I'll probably end up using volume pedals or somesuch, with my other basses I just use the GB rig. Of course I realize how often I'm going to be taking this whole mountain of gear on the road, it'll really be just the GB and one of the Berg cabs. I have a combo, but it's tougher to transport than the head+1 cab.
Rack is simple, wireless+noise gate+power conditioner+the blue thing. The blue thing's a secret.
