Chef - you are most correct ... DS-2's they be

The DS-2's have no issue with lack of brightness in this location, but man o man is there some booty :hyper: and tons of raw woody tone

and a little hint ... wait until I have the soundclips into Freds hands and he uploads them for y'all. you just aren't going to believe how incredibly awsome these DS's sound slapped :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

What you see is a standard Fender style 20 fret neck and P-bass pickguard ... the DS is in a custom location

I hope to have soundclips to Fred within the next week or so (depends on when I receive them) All of the initial testers have given this high marks, and all note just how incredible the DS-3's sound in any bass from Chef's modded OLP to this custom.

Some real nice looking basses here. This is my 60's Hagstrom Coronado with the original Bi-Sonics that the DS's are based on. A real nice little bass (with that skinny Hag neck) and these pickups sound great - woody, lots of bottom and just enough clank to cut the mix.
BTW, I did flip the bridge pickup 180 dgrees (it made a nice difference since I don't have any way to blend these), and when I get the chance I want to do the same to the neck pickup and have all the pole pieces on the inside. I think it'll tighten up the sound a bit.

Here's mine:

A Godin BG-IV with two DS-3's, and a Noll preamp
added (2 band with passive/active volume control)

Love the 34" scale, the pole pieces are lined up where
a standard jazz placement would be. These basses have
to be the best value anywhere, I bang em around and
they ask for more, and sound excellent acoustically.
The schaller bridge is totally adjustable so you can
line up the pole pieces.

I like the two pickup configuration, because the single
coil pu's are reverse wound, so it is very low noise, even
when solo'd. Also, I get a very convincing P-bass sound
with the neck pickup, and nice bark from the bridge pickup.

The Noll preamp really added to the overall effect, it
has frequency centers of 40Hz and 4KHz, and the added
bass presence has to be heard (or felt) to be believed
