You know, I'm generally a big anti-fan of anything that doesn't have it's roots tied to Leo Fender, somehow, but damn if that isn't perhaps the finest example of "modern luthiery" I've ever seen.

Thanks, guys. The whole idea to this design was to incorporate a tradtional shape with modern construction. Here's the spec's.

Only if Fred is done with the 5 string pups..there is what looks like a 5 string version of this bass listed at the lecompte site!
Does a single DS (ds-3) have issues such as single coil hum?
My seymour duncan 1/4 lb'er p-bass is perfect quiet, of course, it being a humbucker pup an' all.
Wondering if putting in a DS would add the dreaded hum ???

Dark stars would have to be the coolest looking pickup ever made.

I'm selling more and more to bass builders (not dealers) and have to give them a competitive discount price so they can make a few bucks and get those Dark Stars in circulation. In order to do that I've had to split the difference and raise the "list price" (not the street price as much) and discount more to the builders. I promise you all that I'm actually making less money at this stage of the adventure.
"Where to put Dark Stars?" has always been a big problem. By discounting to the bass builders I've helped create a system whereby folks who don't want to do all the foot work of finding a bass candidate, buying DSs and then finding somebody to do any necessary routing and installation work can just go to the builder and have it all done for a reasonable price. The builders I'm dealing with range from the inexpensive P type basses to the more exotic high end basses. The "bottom line" is that it's win/win for everybody.....at least that's my hope.

BTW. I highly recommend Bud's work. His basses are among my favorites and especially the one shown in this thread. I hope to commission him to build me one some day soon.
