Awesome bud! I love it. Does this one sound much different than mine? Looks to be the same except the ebony and the top wood.

It sounds pretty close. In a side by side you would probably notice a difference, but not much.

PCM89's Ibanez SR400 is probably the most unique Darkstarred bass I've seen.

Very nice! I simply adore the combination of the shiny chrome-y pickup and the anodized pickguard, especially on a sunburst bass. Pure class.

Bartman, if you have the pickup wire length to do so, try flipping the pickup so the poles face the neck

I don't know, Chef. It's pretty thumpy as it is. I always have my Reverends if I want something with even more booty. The sound for me right now is just perfect.

I might give it a try, but I'm guessing I'd be switching it back.

I've never played an active DarkStar...do they stay "real open sounding," or do they compress some? Do they drive the preamp crazy with their big output?

I've never played an active DarkStar...do they stay "real open sounding," or do they compress some? Do they drive the preamp crazy with their big output?

It was passive at one point. I haven't noticed any compression, really. I think the Audere may play a factor in this, though... set flat, the Audere doesn't noticably boost the signal, and it handles the output from the Darkstars no problem. I've never heard thicker, cleaner lows than when the pre is switched to Low-Z mode with these pickups.

Also, the routes were done so that I can reverse either pickup. I've had them in every position, and so far I like the way they are in the pictures the best. The poles are in roughly the same position as a standard Jazz (60's style).
