Simple and elegant is exactly what we had in mind in the design ...

Having seen the Cream 05 reunion with JB playing a 69ish EB-1
got me thinking of what a modern version might be like, more of an interpretation than a copy. With the 34" scale and bolt on wenge neck it is very detailed sounding with a great range from deep clean bass (no mud) to a nice airy top end.

Thanks Kenny. That is hands down my favorite bass in this thread. It is much more beautiful w/ one pup. I would be frightened that it would sound muddy if ordering one w/that pup placement and am glad to know that it isn't. Why the wenge neck instead of good old maple? I am unfamiliar with wenge as a neck wood. I suppose the EB1 probably had a mahogany neck. I'd love to hear it any chance of posting sound clips?

Wenge has the clarity of a maple neck with a rosewood board, with maybe a little more attack, also I like the feel of it bare and the exotic rich look is a plus. The body is Mahogony like an original EB Gibson.

:) ... The brown strip around the body is Wenge also, neck dots are birdseye maple.

What combination of Audere controls does yours have? I'm pondering a Darkstarred Jazz with an Audere, but was struggling to figure out which combo of controls worked best.

I've never been a fan of Vol-Vol-Tone as a way to control picup selection and was thinking Blend, with a three band EQ.

Any insight would be helpful

It's the VVT model ...

My personal fave not being a fan of a mid control, I actually use the Audere to take some of the lows out to increase cut when needed. I like the VVT as it is more like the original J bass setup and is less fussy, also with the DS pickups you have such a linear reponse range that I just have no need for the mid ... I actually called the guys at Audere and asked about the DS pickups and their pre and we agreed that this was the best setup for my needs. I have a Audere in my 75 RI with Nords and like it too, it lets the sound of the pickup come through and adds or sutracts EQ only as needed. The linear pots and Z switch are nice to.

:hmm: ... I actually used a stock J last night with the mid and still liked the VVT better.
