And a craptacular photo of my ongoing project. A little less Flea and a little more me. Switched to mint, (impossible to capture pink and mint with tablet so use your imaginizer) added ground strap. Next up a matching peg head w/correct decal (on top the lacquer) and SERIOUSLY considering using the super cool spring loaded individual string mutes that came in the candy box with my AVRI '64 Jazz as I'm not going drilling holes in THAT one. Anyway, it's coming along.

Months ago,I fell in love with this Bacchus Jazz I found on Reverb.It was way too much money.....A couple of weeks ago,I'm looking around for more Bacchus' and I come across a like-new one that looks very similar.Yesturday,I thought the grain looks too similar,put them side-by-side,and it's the same bass.The grain matched and the markings on the Tort PG match,exactly....So much for the durability Oil finishes.It sold and I still want it,though.

Is that what it was listed as being finished in? (oiled?) It's not so much that an 'oiled' finish wears quickly, but that it wasn't sealed. It looks like a 'gel-stain' (thick pigmented thinner-based stain) finish which sets up after curing but it needs a seal-coat (clear lacquer, poly etc) to stay stable. They also make water-based stains that look like that. The 'gel-stain' will harden but w/o a sealer will wear as that example looks. That look might be what they were after.
From all I can see,the Bacchus Woodline series are done with an Oil finish and labeled/listed as only that....The above is black,others white,brown,etc....The used ones I've seen have similar wear,but to a much lesser degree.
I got an Ibanez with a mahogany oil finish about five years ago and after a couple of years the forearm and other areas are likewise worn clean.

Oil alone will be the most minimal coating and maintain the wood look and feel the best.
