Interesting career choice and a coincidental one as well. I don't know if Pete's decision was influenced at all by Ron Blair, but when Ron left the Heartbreakers in 1982 he went on to open a bikini shop called Shapes.

Fun story about the Heartbreakers!

Question about all the pictures of the old Fender Jazz basses?
Do you guys like the pick up and bridge covers or not?
I've always taken them off and tossed 'em (hence the ashtray joke?).
Easier for me to play. But that's just me.

I was a huge Mott the Hoople fan back in high school. Thanks for the pics of Overend Watt's bass!!!!!

I've always tried to keep the covers (in the case) just so the instruments are as 'complete' as possible - but don't play with them on.

Depends on the bass. I also remove the bridge cover on any bass with a standard bridge because I commonly palm-but there, but I have a bass where it covers the string-stop bar on a trapeze-style bridge. Normally I don't use a neck pu cover either but I did leave one on a Jazz bass since I mostly play over the bridge pu. On that one, I left it on mostly for looks.

That could be true, but judging from the back, it probably had minimal red on it out of the factory. I've seen other 3TSB finishes that look like that. Could be one painter who did his bursts like that as a bit of a signature.

Thank you. It's interesting you bring up the back. The images of the back IMO, show more red than the front which is why I thought it may have faded.
