Only a late seventies (78) P-bass, (year that being damned by some people as bad years for fender basses :D )...
Only a poly finish instead of nitro,..will look 'dull' compared by other basses here,
Only a bad picture taken with my old phone camera...but nonetheless,
It's my trusty companion for 30 year, in joy and sorrow, weapon for scrounging my bread and butter, with many dramatical history of us two... My own 'slightly' poly finish distressed look (all scratches dings & finish ruined by me myself in 30 year of the journey together) -humble, ordinary- Fender P-Bass (backside)... would like to say hi to all the gorgeous friends and family here :D

I hadn't seen this post, but was aware of their sale of it (after the fret-job?) from gbase (a guitar selling site) I had already contacted them (last Feb/March) but w/no luck on further history. I just sent them your link with my information with hopes they might remember something now. (the old squeaky hinge tact)

Thanks anyway, it definitely gives me more of a time-line knowing it was there needing a regret in August of 2013. FTR, they did a partial re-fret, which is quite common, especially for a working-mans bass. They re-fretted the "money" frets (ones most worn-down) and not the higher register frets which don't get visited too often. In fact, on my P bass, the rosewood fb is gouged/worn on the B section - so from that I deduced that the owner played to horn-band arraignments regularly.

~!!!~ while typing this (and it's late here on the west coast) I just received a reply from Mike & Mikes (where your link was from), from… Mike (!) and he gave me further information/contact from the shop in Portland where they got it from! Again, maybe I've barked up this tree already, but perhaps this time I can stir some memories! The journey continues anew with hopes for insight and discovery!

Match aging/shrinking/thin nitro finishes with the bass that was most played during the 50's-60's and it's understandable that most of the road-warriors posted here are Fenders. It also explains the allure of distressed finishes as story-vessels and also beautiful and rare objects of art. They might have all rolled out of Fullerton with the expressed goal of looking exactly the same - but after years of service, just like the musician that played them they each become unique individual entities.

And for some reason, anything but a Fender just looks like a beat up log most of the time.
