Show Your Fretless

Roscoe SKB Custom 5 - solid Myrtle body, 1 7/8" at the nut and 3/4" at the bridge, lotsa piece neck and birdseye maple Dymondwood board. It now has MTD rounds on it and growls like a rabid dog! Not that I want dogs to be rabid...

I'm a horrible fretless guy, but I keep on plugging away so someday I will be average at it. Gotta have those lines!

I have owned 3 fretless basses in total. The keeper is this one: 99/00 Carvin BB75. I got it around 2003 and played it fretted. It took a back seat to my other 5ers several years ago and eventually was almost never played. It's a fantastic bass, and I realized it would make an incredible fretless (J pickups, ebony board, super comfy and balanced). Had my friend do the work and it's living on with more play time!

The Carvin conversion made this Lakland 55-01 conversion go away. I got it for a steal and it was a great bass in every way. I just didn't care for the light colored, natural wood thing, especially spalted maple. If it were black, I'd still have it.

The Lakland replaced this 1985 Peavey Foundation Custom fretless. It's factory fretless, despite the headstock not having the "FL" in the logo. I got the Foundy to dip into fretless playing and see if it would stick. I love Foundations, and this was a great bass in every way, too. Realized that I am going to keep up with the fretless, but I'm only going to own one. Therefore, if it's just one fretless bass, it really should be a 5 string.

My main fretless nowadays is the signature Gary Willis, with round wounds on it. Several jazz videos of me on the GWB are on my YouTube account, ImprovUnedited, such as Humanity - Mov 4:
If anyone likes this kind of jazz (originals; often jazz tone poems), please do subscribe. Cheers, Julie
Only one (older) tune using the MTB with flat wounds, since I'm trying to sell it, is The Corn Shucker from 14th St.:
