I posted my NeoPak + Neox112t rig on page 2, but here's a cameraphone pic of the rig I've been playing lately, what I'm calling the Shuttle Ministack (Shuttle 3.0-10t combo + STL10t extension cab):

I'll be using this setup (the ministack and that fretless Stingray 5) for a live recorded show this Saturday night with the Brian James Band, a Stevie Ray / John Mayer / Hendrix type of thing. Hot guitarist ... this will be fun!

I played my first gig with it this afternoon. Tone for days, scads of headroom.
Great growl when I wanted it, and I could just dial in more neck pickup (and pick nearer to the fretboard) to get a huge fat vintage sound when I needed that.

I'm starting to love this rig.

Nice rig! I have question for you GB users. I am thinking about putting together a GB rig. 7A 50 or 1200 plus the XB610. The dealer in my city won't bring the bigger GB stuff in because they just aren't a big enough name yet (his justification). So I would have to order unplayed. I really don't have a big problem with that. There has been nothing on this forum to suggest that GB gear is anything but quality. My question is can GB get a dirty/grindy sound? I was reading some other threads where posters were saying that GB does clean exceptionally well but doesn't get dirty very well. Any truth to that? :)

Here are two videos of a GBE 1200 and some gritty overdrive. The first is all out distortion.

The second video has Ed switching between the FET and Tube channels to get some warmth, and then at the end he dials up distortion. He's playing with a pick a lot so you can hear the differences in the channels.

1st off, thanks. 2nd, I bought my head and cab without playing them 1st. I went by the reviews and recommendations here. I'm NOT disappointed!

Not sure how much grit you're wanting. I'm after a nice clean tone with the least amount of grit possible but I can tell you if I dig in hard it'll get gritty, no problem. I'm sure you can run the tube ch. hotter and get all kinds of grit but whether it's what you're looking for only you can decide.

I am just wanting to make sure that GB has some dirt around the edges so to speak. I like a bit of distortion in my overall sound. When I need something over the top I just click on one of my fuzz pedals. My current set up is a GK 1001RB-II with a RBI if that helps.

I love the looks of that XB610. Very cool cabinet and anything I have read says they have killer sound too. :)

I can tell you that cab is loud and cuts through like crazy. With both cabs running I had to check to make sure the Ampeg was even producing sound, the 610 ran over it like a Mack truck. I think you could dial it in BUT like I said, I try to avoid that tone so I haven't delved into that area. I'm all but positive all it would take is dialing in the tube ch. with more gain to get your desired amount of distortion. What I love is running both ch.'s at the same time. I set the tube ch. up with a fatter tone, a little more bottom end w/ the mids pulled back a little and then the FET ch. brighter and punchier. They blend together great!

You'll find that the combination of a GBE1200 and GB610T-XB2 will pretty much provide you with any sound you're looking to achieve.

As one of (if not) the first Genz Benz GBE1200 and GB610T-XB2 owners on this board (2.5 yrs now) I can honestly say that you will not be disappointed if you buy this combination. I can't say that for any other GB combination, because this is the only GB setup that i've ever played through.

In Ontario, the distributor of GB products is B&J Music in Mississauga. They distribute GB products to stores, so I can't see why they wouldn't supply GB products to stores in the other 9 provinces.

FWIW, GB and B&J are both owned by The Kaman Group, who are in turn now owned by FMIC (Fender Musical Industries Corp). Having said that, you'll find that the Genz-Benz staff will go out of their way should you ever need their help.

In short, Genz-Benz is a first class organization producing first class products and supporting them with first class service.
