Show your tidy pedalboard!

Hey,
I have been fan of this thread for a while. In the past i made 2 pedalboards and just finished my 3rd custom pedalboard.
  • My first one was made out of a small wooden tray i found at a second-hand-store, painted it white and added a cloudy placemat that i had laying somewhere. I mostly only used a tuner and the Boss OC-3 on this pedalboard.

  • The second one started as a high gloss chrome tray with a lot of holes in it. Filled all the holes with filler, painted it matte black and added a 'wood like' placemat.

  • The third one; i tried making it out of pine-wood.. But i made a mistake in the dimensions, it was too small in dept. After that i decided to go adventurous, make it out of 1.5mm aluminum sheet:
    • Ordered a piece of 1.5mm aluminum sheet online. (custom dimensions)
    • Bended smooth round corners using a custom made tool. (see picture below, inspired by Simple DIY Sheet metal bending tool. Great idea to bend sheet metal - YouTube added a copper pipe i had laying around to get the round bend..)
    • Drilled/cut the holes in it.
    • Sanded the whole pedalboard to get a 'brushed like' finish.
    • At the bottom i made it as neat as possible using cable trays, soldered/cut a few custom wires + added new plugs; all 9v cables and a few jack patch cables too. (not all, the ones with black plugs are custom)

The un-used space will be used in the future for probably a chorus, overdrive and maybe a small delay and an small effects loop switcher to have a switchable synthy dreamy sound. (Octave/chorus/overdrive/delay)

I'm glad i made the mistake in the pine-wood version, because the new aluminum turned out really well. :D

After getting inspired by others i wanted to inspire other people by sharing all the pedalboards i made.

It's fun to DIY a pedalboard and you don't need fancy things.. You can use a tray or just a cutting-board or rectangle piece of wood to make one easily. It can be simple or complex.

Thanks to everyone for the inspiration.

Really nicely done! :bassist::hyper:

A lot of times all I’m bringing is something that gets me just a really good tone that I can send to the board. That’s where the “Stank Box” lives. Simple, reliable and whatever you chuck through it is going to sound better.

However my wife and I are doing a looper duo so I decided to just use a multi for that. I’ll have to set this up on its own board soon, but I want to keep it closer to the ground so I’ll likely make a hdpe board for it to live on and get it it’s own Apache case from HF. (Ps, if you look closely you might see the single complaint I have against the B24.)

Added a Broughton Josh Wah, and rethought my wiring some. Not unhappy with the tidiness, but if you have any suggestions how to deal with all those patch cables rather than, well, like this, feedback is much appreciated. This way though, everything is inside the dimensions of the board, plugs included, which I quite like.

Signal path: Bass >> PolyTune Mini >> Spark Mini >> Broughton HPF >> Broughton Josh Wah >> EHX Big Muff Pi >> Orange Bass Butler >> Amp / Radial ProDI (if only one DI line is provided, otherwise, the two DI outs on the BB)

Really digging how neat this looks! I am about to acquire a Bass Butler and am heading towards a similar setup. What power supply do you have running this and what board do you have this on?

That was a Pedaltrain Metro 16, PSU a TrueTone CS6 with an adaptor cable / polarity reversal for the Bass Butler. Finding a patch cable that fit the plug was actually a challenge; the one the TS6 shipped with was too tight. In the end I used the one that came with my Diamond Bass Comp.

Fantastico
i went down the diy route with a chopping board,

then a second and flipped it to cradle the power pack. Only issue is it’s pretty heavy. Aluminium you say …. hmmm

Which dirty pedal do you prefer for your distorted sound, or what combo?

I have experimented with a lot of OD's, the VMT is my all time favorite. I mostly play rock/classic rock/ heavy.
It sounds awsome, fits very well in a mix and is easy to dial in.
I combine it with the B3K in front of it if I want to cut through the mix even more for really heavy stuff.

Where did you get a blue American Sound?

Saw it on Facebook marketplace I think. Dunno much about them, was just looking for a cheap distortion pedal to complement the Orange amp dirty channel. I like it, I use it to give a little bit of an Entwistle edge to my clean sound and I double up with the dirty channel when I want to go OTT.

Any info about that pedal much appreciated.

Not sure if I could be getting more out of a different pedal hence my earlier question. Kinda happy with the Orange dirt channel as my main distortion but I guess you don’t know what you’ve never tried.

I’ve been using the Zoom B2FOUR a lot lately and it’s been a complete jem. Really love the thing!

My other board is just a really comfortable home, it’s mostly based around stuff I’ve used for a long time. Just a lot of really great tones. Plus the pedalboard and case were less than $30 off AliExpress. The pedalboard itself is real sturdy and the case feels like it’s made out of quality material. Not quite as high a build quality as a the Mono Tick I initially looked at, but pretty damn close!
