Single cut design - advantages ?

aren't all basses made by luthiers?

im guessing that alot of the work on cheap basses ( sx squier olp etc) are machined or done my a machine of some sort to save on cost

This was the first single cut bolt on they did, I believe the join is a little bit neater on newer ones...

Sorry...I actually had a single-cut (Godin SD-4, shaped more like a map of the USA than a whale) that IMO sounded better than the double-cut Freeway model that replaced it.

Interestingly, SC's seem to be most prevalent in Jazz.
Anybody know a SC player in other genres ?

To answer your question, yeah other bass guitarists than Jazz bassists use em. The guy who got me interested in them plays for a cool band called Kaddisfly.

I would recommend checking them out. It's hard to describe the type of music they play, to tell you the truth.

It comes in contact with the body but because of the overall neck design, it doesn't need to be bolted to it. There's nowhere for it to go.

None. The neck pocket is four-sided, the neck goes 8" into the body... the pieces aren't going anywhere

gotcha. does that neck pocket go under the pickup? cant really tell from the photo. very cool design on that bass.

Yes, it does.

Kevin came up with that idea around twenty years ago and that's the only way he's built since then.
