Single-Digit Club!

I've been playing since 1980 and have owned eight basses total, if memory is accurate.

1. Hand-me-down Woolworth/Penny's department store SG lookin' bass. Neck was so warped it could shoot arrows, but it was a start!

2. Another no-name, but the neck was straight on this one. Not a bad playing thing at all; looked like a Strat with a long neck.

3. Hondo Explorer, first new bass. Had it for a long time... Over time the thing got hot-rodded with active Duncan split P pickup, hand carved brass nut and a bunch of other goodies. Sold it. Wish I hadn't...

4. 1975 Ric 4001 that I bought from a buddy. Still have it, always will...

5. 1983 Ric 4003 bought very slightly used as a second Ric for the road. It was stolen along with my gig bag full of goodies. :rage:

6. Peavey T-20 with the ironing board case. Bought it as a practice bass to leave at the studio, but was very pleasantly surprised at how well it played and it's tone (it had tapewounds). Used on a few gigs!

7. Custom Carvin LB-70. Still have this one too and it will never go. Went to the factory and ordered it with every fool option I could. Still love it!

8. Sterling Stingray 5 sub series, HH, limited edition, etc., etc... (Thing has more names than an East Coast aristocrat) Just picked this one up a little while ago. First five string and I'm having a great time with it...

Disclaimer: not an actual club. I don't want to hand out any damn numbers or anything ... :D

I started playing bass in '87. Admittedly there are periods of on-and-off in there, but over that time, I have owned a total of nine bases. Yep, a single-digit number!

So, how many of you can say the same? Who has owned fewer than ten bases in their lives so far? You have to say how long you've been playing too: it's far less impressive if you own nine bases, but you started playing only last week! :roflmao:

I think every bass player should own a USA Peavey just because they are so cream of the crop basses.

I’m at 8.

1) crap P copy in 94
2) part exchanged for a cheap aria pro II PJ in 95
3) somehow managed to get together a 1977 fender jazz in 97 for 450 British pounds by part exchanging 2) and saving up
4) musicman stingray in 2000. Main bass for almost 20 years
5) musicman BFR stingray 5 in 2019
6) modern vintage J in 2021
7) modern vintage P in 2022

(8 owned a cheap fretless for 2 years back in the day )

Still got 3-7 and very happy with my collection

(if we count my two double basses I’m no longer in the club lol)
