Single-Digit Club!

I've been playing for about 25 years and I can think of 10 basses that I've owned, but I feel like I'm forgetting something, so I would say in the neighborhood of a dozen.

I'm currently in the "#1 club" in that the number of basses I currently have is, well, one! Weirdly, I have more guitars than I do basses at the moment (3 guitars, one being an acoustic) and I barely play guitar.

Disclaimer: not an actual club. I don't want to hand out any damn numbers or anything ... :D

I started playing bass in '87. Admittedly there are periods of on-and-off in there, but over that time, I have owned a total of nine bases. Yep, a single-digit number!

So, how many of you can say the same? Who has owned fewer than ten bases in their lives so far? You have to say how long you've been playing too: it's far less impressive if you own nine bases, but you started playing only last week! :roflmao:

Playing for fifty years, have owned eight bass guitars total. Of those I still own three.

Yeah, yeah, if you count one EUB and one acoustic upright it’s a fail. ;)

I've been playing for 58 years. I have owned 0 to 1 basses most of that time. I have, for financially fortunate reasons, over the past 15 years grown that as high as 15. I have decided that I don't really need that many around. I bought them because they were pretty. I've been able to trim back to 11.
I am, in fact working on it and if all goes well, I'll be down to 8.

OK, I don't fit the OP's definition of single digits, but....

I have always had single digit numbers in my little herd, and....

Over the years, I have donated double digit numbers of basses (plus a few other instruments) to local places that help kids get started in music. This wouldn't be possible if I met the OP's original criteria.

I've been playing since 2016! I had an Epiphone Viola and a parts Jazz bass I put together. That taught me an important lesson that putting together an instrument is not something I like to do, and would be better spent playing.

I now just have a single fretless bass, and feel super happy with it!

That makes 3 basses total that I've owned. I'm considering getting a backup bass, possibly a short scale 4 string fretted bass. I'll consider it once I start gigging regularly again
