I'm interested in the Dalwhinnie 15. What kind of characteristics does it have? A reasonable 15 year old appeals to me ( says the father of a 15 year old daughter!

I don't think there's a "bad" single malt scotch whisky out there. Some are more "challenging" that others (Islays). My preference is for Lowland whiskys like Auchentoshan (Three Wood) or Speysides like Balvenie (15 yr). Of course, the older the better!

The Dalwhinnie is a nice gentle scotch and I need to replace mine sometime soon.
Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Bunnahabhain are amongst my favorites, making me a very strong Islay fan, but that Balvenie 15 Single Barrel, old or new version, are both incredible!
Two scotches I really like are actually bested by younger bottlings. Lagavulin 12 > 16 and Balvenie 15 > 21. In the case of Lagavulin, the 12 is actually more expensive too, but oh is it worth it. Balvenie 15 Single Barrel, one of the best in the world.
I don't know about that. Someone gave me a Glenfiddich 12 one time, I think a cow would be embarassed to piss that stuff.

My understanding is that it is a Mac product and not the same as the Mac 18 sherry wood. Hope you love me it
This was last nights adventure. The center bottle was finished in an IPA cask. I really enjoyed it.
Aberlour A'bunadh batch 60 tonight. I've never had a scotch that needs water like this one does. 60.3% alcohol will do that I guess.
Compared to other batches I've had, I'm a bit disappointed for my purposes. But, I will say this one is so much more balanced than previous iterations. I do like it as a departure from my Islays, but I feel like it's going to take some more tastings to "get" this one. Number 60 doesn't have the magical quality of the first one I tasted, at a TBer's house in Vancouver some years ago. I'm not getting as much evolution over a long finish. For the price I paid (~60 USD), it's good though.
