I've tried Ardmore 12, like it, don't see it around here much. MI isn't a single malt mecca.
My real sleeper favorite is Caol Illa 12, one of my favorites.
Caol Ila 12 is one of the nice mild Islay offerings and it's a really good one for breaking in friends who've never tried an Islay. Need to get another bottle soon!

I just picked up a bottle of Bunnahabhain 18, one of my favorites! Also got a bottle of Taketsuru Pure Malt to hold me through until I can get another bottle of the 17.

Fairly new to the site, and brand new to this thread. I just wanted to echo the 12 year old op and say that I love the Islay single malts. Laphroaig remains my favorite, after discovering it at Cadenheads in Edinburgh while living in the UK years ago. That peaty smokiness is just sublime.
Got myself one of these the other day:
Crikey, one of my fav whiskies I've tasted so far. Very close in favoriteness to the Lagavulni 16. Bit heavy at 60.7% but the taste is amazing.

I found one that is named after the alleged founder of the distillery. His name was the name my son goes by. So I figure I have to get him a bottle, just so he can casually say to people "Oh you DON'T have an Orkney Island Single Malt named after you? Really? How odd.' or something similar.

I'm very much coming around to A'bunadh batch 60. All of them have their place (Ab 12 is an easy first dram) but the A'Bunadh might be my favorite right now.

Uigeadail is great, but get a bottle of Corryvreckan sometime. I haven't bought any Uigeadail since. I still love the Lagavulin 16, but the 12 is even better, depending on what price difference they have. I try to keep both on hand.
It'd be nice to appreciate this stuff with someone who has a more developed palate. If you were local, I would've been happy to host!
The Corry is on my list for sure. Lagavulin 12 is nearly twice the price of the 16 at my goto place, so I might skip that guy for a while since I'm so happy with the 16...but I'll keep it on my radar. How is the 8?
I keep looking for the Lagavulin 8 but have yet to find one. I think Tom Bowlus sold me on getting one, but it's still on hold until I can actually find a bottle!
And yes, the Lagavulin 12 is generally a lot more than the 16, which is one reason I still like to buy both, but with the price difference being so small between Corryvreckan and Uigeadail, I just buy the Corryvreckan now. (Really liking the new An Oa as well.)

I've got both the Bunnahabhain 12 and 18. Really love the 18 but the 12 is great for the price.
