Balvenie Doublewood is what I call a go-through scotch. As in it's so smooth, you go through it like water.
And then you fall down.
Seriously, it's dangerously smooth.
That it is. I've poured a sensible dram and put the bottle away.

Damn. I was just in Montana. I was almost 1/2 way there!
I think there is some colouring in Caol Ila 12, but not a whole lot. It's definitely lighter in colour than most single malts. One of my go-to whiskies. Can't get it here so I always buy a bottle when I go to the US.
All in all, if I was told I could only ever drink one whisky for the rest of my days, it would be Lagavulin 16.
There is a lot to be said for blends created by true masters/artisans such as Richard Paterson.Blended > Single Malt

Just introduced my girlfriend to scotch. We did a caol ila 12 and a glenrothes 1998. The verdict...
She prefers islays! And even better yet... "I liked it a lot more before we added the water". It was a true introduction so we started neat and experimented. I'm a proud boyfriend.
I'd say I'm pretty lucky. I'd rather be Sharing a single malt than sharing an amaretto sour...oh yeah, she also happens to be pretty cute.

Lucky = damn she has taste
Unlucky = you have to share...
That's "whisky."That place is great if anyone's ever in Saratoga Springs NY. 9 Maple...cool bar with a massive whiskey selection!
