So I decided to play my 5-string M5 at practice. I never used the B string, but the bass sounded so good. I have decided to move it into the #1 slot. It just blends so well into the mix.

Now that have used my 5-string Sire M5 for a band practice and gone through my Rush set, I don't know *** I was thinking before.

Once you just acquiesce to the fact you have to use the floating thumb technique, the 5-string actually becomes simpler to play. Somehow in my exuberance to utilize my many four string bass guitars, I forgot that in many ways having the strings just ever so closer together can actually be very helpful in playing faster passages.

All my other bass guitars except my P7 and Fretless Jazz have humbuckers. When you are trying to emulate the sound of Geddy Lee, you can only get so close with a humbucker. Overdrive also behaves and sounds much different on a single coil pickup arrangement. When I have my M5 set right, I can disappear into the mix. The feeling is sheer magic. I never get tired of it.

So now, I'm not even sure I would consider trading it. It is back to #1 on the wall. But somehow I have to find a way to convince my wife I have to have a Burgundy Mist Z7 4-string!

I'm a Geddy Lee fan too. Get a ferfect GL sound with my lightweight V9, best Sire MM ever.
