I dont think I would put any magnets besides the pickups on my Electric Bass Guitar
Saw a rig vid with Steve Vai...
He uses Velcro on his string's whammy spring cover on the back of all his guitars...
Looks like a home job, but does it affect the way he plays??????? Don't think so...
It works, is pragmatic , and quickly applied!
AFAIK Dingwall basses have magnetic battery covers by factory, so I would not worry...
Lots of builders do it, plus the battery boxes on the V series are about as far from the pickups as you can get.
I've had my V3 for 2 years now. I think I replaced the cheap factory batteries with Energizers 18 months ago and that's it. Retrofitting with magnets isn't a mod I would do because I just don't need to. I'm also not doing gigs where swapping out batteries in the middle of a set is a concern. That said, the new battery doors are great, but the old ones were never a concern for me.
Thinking of letting my V5 go, I'm pretty much a one/two guitar kinda person and as it is it's just hanging on the wall looking pretty.
It seems my Nash PB-63 and the Sire M7 5 string is enough for me.
Cancelled my Fretless M7 order too, no time for that either.

You've got pretty much all the bases covered with those two, though a fretless M7 would be sweet.
Ok, so I have this weird OCD (or anti-OCD?) thing:
I feel weird about having more than one bass of the same brand, if that brand is *not* the same as my main live bass.
Somehow this feels like me saying that my main bass is not the best one, or not the best brand or something... I don't even know. Maybe someone else can identify?
Anyway, I've been looking for a new 4-string P-bass. The problem is that I already own a Sire (P5 fretless), and my main live bass is a Lakland. So this weird mental quirk has caused me to fight back against my new P-bass being another Sire P5, even though I *know* how great the Sire P5 feels and sounds.
I've been looking at Squier Classic Vibe, Yamaha BB, maybe a used Peavey Fury, looking for used LTDs or Schecters, etc. But finally I managed to convince myself that I'm actually just being stupid.
So yeah... I have Sire #2 on the way; a 4-string P5 sunburst. Hoping it will arrive before a gig on august 12.

I am torn between the P5 5-string and the Yamaha BB435. Both basses are currently priced at $500 at Sweetwater. I am aware that the BB435 is a PJ bass, so I am mainly interested in hearing opinions about the P-bass pickup on both basses.
I have heard good things about both basses, but I am curious to hear from people who have played both and can compare their experiences. I am particularly interested in the following:
1. Sound - specially the B string
2. Build quality - does the 5pc neck and 6 bolt on w/ miter bolt adds at lot to its build?

Really might be 6 in 1, half dozen in the other...
Went to the local Yamaha dealer, cash in pocket, looking for a 604, he had squat, ended up with the M5, which I'm very happy with...
I spent weeks n weeks investigating both ( actually I was looking at the M7, before this M5 came available at a good price)...
I think Yamaha is a very reputable brand, Japanese, high standards of QC...

I've had a BB435 (now sold) and currently own a P5 4 string. Obviously I can't speak to the B string on the Sire, but the BB435 had a pretty good low B. The P pickup on the BB sounded pretty good, but I thought the J pickup sounded a little weak. Regarding build quality, both are very good, but I'd give the edge to the Sire. Both punch WAY above their weight class. While I did end up selling the BB, it wasn't because I didn't like it. It was just a redundancy in my stable that I didn't need. I could see myself picking up a BBP35 somewhere down the road though. I don't see myself getting rid of the Sire. In fact, I'd like to find a nice V5 5 string.
Hello everyone, my 5 string v7 sounds a bit honky with the 2 pickups on. I was wondering if this is a phase issue but then again, aren't the pickups on a jazz bass supposed to be in opposite phase?
A V7 should sound fine. With the active eq you should be able to get a real good sound. Try: master tone control (underneath the volume control) about 50%. High: about 75%. Mids: leave freq select in the middle and then try to add or reduce the mids. You can do a lot with the mids, just try to find your sweet spot.
