Does anyone know the factory string gauges for the V5R? And will 34" strings be long enough for string-through body with the 4 in-line tuners?

I'm surprised that the string gauges aren't listed on the Sire, Sweetwater or Pitbull sites. I also searched this thread but only found posts where ppl were guessing the gauges.

I just recieved my V5 fretless in the mail today, it came strung through the body with blue silk flats, which I think are chromes given the silk color and feel (tried them before). The sire bass manual at https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0368/3149/4282/files/Sire_UserManual_Eng_Bass1.pdf (got it from Congratulations on your new Sire!) says that the gauges are 45 65 80 100 130 (chromes are 45 65 80 100 132 so it checks out). The thing I cannot help on is what scale they use to get them through the body.

AFAIK fretted Sire basses come with EB Hybrid Slinkys by factory, so 45-105 for 4 strings. Fretless have D'addario Chromes.

I don't know what the V5R comes with from the factory, but I strung mine through the body with medium DR Nickel Lo Riders (45-65-85-105-130 - it's a five string with B-E-A-D in line on the top of the headstock and the G by itself on the bottom of the headstock)) and they fit. Love the way they sound, too.

I got my Sire M2 4 string today, I know it's comparing apples to oranges but they were non-silked 40-60-80-100 rounds. I'm cutting them off and putting flats on it as I do with all my basses.

What you call ruined, I call enlightened. The more I play my V7 the more I enjoy it. I leave it in passive and go to town and don't think much about buying anything else.

My luthier friend is going to refinish my V5 in the next few weeks for a good price and the only thing I'm not super stoked with that bass is the sunburst finish.

So i'll officially be joining the club in a few weeks! I ordered a V7 alder in tobacco burst from Sweetwater.
Super excited to have a Jazz for the first time in a long time. AND its my first brand new bass in quite awhile as well.
Does anybody know what the stock strings are? I have a spare set of DR Hi-Beams if I need 'em

It's official! My V5R was scheduled to arrive tomorrow (12/26) but I'm a strange turn of events it was delivered on Saturday (12/23). FedEx never delivers early so I was quite shocked.

Anyway, I opened the bass this morning and have been noodling all day. The neck is so easy to play and it sounds great through my Rumble 40. So glad to finally have it in my hands!

NBD! This is my new V7 Alder (Gen 2) Fretless!
Dang! I am absolutely stunned by how good this bass is!
It looks as if Sire has addressed some of the constructive input I've seen in videos and some forums I've read.
The tuners look and feel solid and precise.
The bridge saddles appear to be stainless and each have one nicely rounded groove instead of the many little grooves.
The string tree looks like a quality item to me. Maybe it's still the one some folks dislike, I don't know..looks high quality to me and works great.
Weight is exactly 9.2lbs. Not bad for a J-bass as far as I'm concerned.
The fit and finish are nothing less than incredible, and after doing a setup, it plays as great as it sounds, which is world class!
The plastic is still in place in the picture, but I assure you that it has since been removed.
This already has me questioning whether I actually need some of my other more expensive instruments anymore.
May I join the club?

I have that same bass in Boomer Burst™. I love it! It's probably one of the best fretless basses I've ever played.

Wow ... Mc Scrooge takes a few days away, and what? I hope everyone enjoyed their Xmas.

Sire pickups are a hot topic. I don't get "it" .... I just roll off some highs. Sounds great to my ears thankfully! Lots of people want to change Sire pickups.

One of the cooler Google searches I ever did was Sire+capacitor. I learned everything in this thread in about 15 seconds. I wish all online searches had such good results!

And hmmmm. I love my U5. May get a second one even. But if I'm going to buy a Sire that looks like a Stingray... Just saying...

Yes, I met Entwistle backstage after a show at a club where I was performing fairly regularly with a prog rock band back in the 90's.
When I heard from my inside connection that his band was coming, I secured a couple tickets.
He was a really nice guy. Just funny as all heck too.

I'll never forget that he was so patient and kind to us.
Not at all hung up on himself, he even made a few self-deprecating jokes about his own "style".

He signed that picture for me, and then another for my brother because he remembered I had previously mentioned that my brother is also a bass player who really liked his work, and that he couldn't be there due to illness.

A flawed human like the rest of us, but at his core, a really nice man. Such a legend.

Well, I sorta know what they are talking about but still I'm like you. If I need to brighten the P I just roll on enough J to do it. If I need to put some bottom in the J I just roll on the P a little. Also, I learned that in a big room I just put both in the middle, then use the tone knob. After that, it's all up to the FOH and monitor sound guys anyway.
