Sire M7 Club

I came to the conclusion that I rarely use the preamp in my M7 as most of my sound settings come from my pedals so when my batteries died this week, I removed them but did not put new batteries in the bass. I found that this gives me a kill switch for the bass since flipping the switch to the active/preamp position when you have no batteries effectively mutes the bass. This will come in handy on stage (though I usually use the pedal tuner to mute my bass).

Hi folks... just got a Sire Marcus Miller M7 and wounder where the manual is. Is it common sense in 2022 for a dealer to spare the manual AND a download link? On a 999 Euro base guitar? Sire hasn't these manuals for download. So I got here to find the meaning of all the swithes. Basically I wanted to have a single coil capable quality base guitar, 5 stings and 35" neck and it looks as if I have found it by mistake. Even as a purchase by mistake and here (in Germany) 30 day money back with free shipping is still standard. BTW buying it online got me an unadjusted base guitar and I wounder where to turn the truss rod to have the neck little bit bended. That's in the manual, basically, but I cannot guess if the screws inside are left or right hand and this is really annnoying.

Is this bass decent for Rock music? Looking for a bass I can use in church, in a big band, and a rock band. I see lots of great looking options for tone, but most of what I see and hear online are guys slapping and popping on it, which I don't do at all. I won't be playing in any funk bands.

Oh. yeah, the M series can do rock for sure. Tonally extremely versatile and responds well to player dynamics.

Someone on here was using a black M7 5er for some sort of metal, can't remember, it's been a few months. I thought it kind of looks the part, in a subtle unflashy way, but dark and mean looking:

Yes, I use my M7 for Rock and Metal. I have the same color as posted by @bholder . Great looking - dark, but you still can see the wood beneath the finish.
And with the options to use Single Coil or Humbucker mode (parallel and series possible), there should be a sound for every rocking genre. :bassist:

Looks like the new Sire M’s are trickling in to Sweetwater. I noticed new M5’s several days ago. Now they have alder body M7 5 strings with battery doors.
Changes I personally wish Sire would make to the M7:
  • Deeper bottom cutaway all the way to the 24th fret
  • No exposed pole pieces (so ugly, especially on the 6 string.. there are 48 of them!)
  • 17mm string spacing
  • 34" scale length 5 string
  • Longer upper horn to the 12th fret instead of 13th

I found by accident that the Stage Mate folding banjo stand works really well with my M7 and the arms do not come into contact with my pre amp knobs on my bass.

I was working on a pedal board and needed to set my bass down and the closest stand I could reach at that moment was my dad's banjo stand. It worked well and did not come into contact with any knobs on my bass (like my folding Hercules guitar stand does). The Stage Mate stand blends well in with the background on stage (unlike my tall Hercules guitar stand that holds my bass by the neck) and folds up easily and compactly for transport. I don't know if this is the same one (since I did not buy the stand) but this one looks like it.

So if you are looking for a small, folding stand for your bass, maybe a banjo stand would be an option for you.

Sire M7 2nd gen 4-string inbound :bassist: (pics at the end of this post)

I've read a great deal about this bass over the past few years. What sparked my interest was a 2022 Sire V7 gen2 4-string alder jazz bass that I had here for a few months. It was a fantastic bass! Very comfortable to play, the pickups sounded great, the Heritage 3 preamp offered a lot of versatility, and the passive tone control is a great feature (also present on the Nordstrand 3B-4a - my favorite on-board bass pre). I prefer the Nordstrand pre but the Heritage 3 does the job nicely.

I sold the V7 after a few months because I already have a Jazz bass (an alder 2018 Fender American Standard with Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass pickups) and I enjoy playing it a fair bit more than I did the V7. I also prefer a simple passive Jazz bass. The V7 did get me thinking about an M series. I sat on the idea for a while, and then life brought enough distraction that I sort of forgot. Recently I started shopping again for a Gen2 Sire M7 in natural/ash and yesterday came across one in excellent condition with a beautiful flame maple top, and a great price at $800 shipped. So I bought it. This should be fun!

It likely won't arrive until late next week, but I have enough going on here that I'd likely have little time to play it before then.

Anyway, here's what it looks like:

MARCUS MILLER Sire M7 Ash 1st gen - TONE Test [NO TALKING]

thanks for this video
, I've been thinking for a long time about what to buy M5 or V5-V7
I wanted the sound of singles and something else for versatility.
Judging by this video, even if the bass does not sound like Jazz bass, the sound of single coils is beautiful and really very different from the parallel and sequential humbucker mode.
great video, thank you.

I'm looking at maybe buying one from 2018 - would that be 1st generation? What's the difference between the 1st gen and 2nd gen M7?
I believe that Sire released the Gen 2 in late 2018 (Q4?). Here is a press release from late November 2018.

The important part: "2N added to the serial number to identify the second generation."

Some of the changes:
  • Rolled fretboard edges
  • ebony fingerboard
  • pickups
  • cigarette lighter
Hope this helps, cheers!
