One thing I find kinda funny about this - from the "seller's" POV...

If you were going to seriously mug someone, why would you offer to give away a bass for free? Why not just sell it for a ridiculously low price, like $600-$800 - that way, when the victim shows up, they'll actually have the large amount of cash on them...

So what would be the point of mugging someone who thinks they're getting something for free?

I certainly wouldn't expect that person to have any money on them...

Maybe you're gonna be OK after all...I certainly wouldn't expect this person to have a real Rick bass though...

I say scam. I put a want ad up on craigslist for looking bass guitars (hey it worked for finding good deals on ATV's) and got a reply right away with somebody saying that they had a bass guitar that they were willing to give to me because they were just given a new one. They just wanted to pass the good fortune onto somebody else.

I reply back and say "Great, I'll come pick it up". They reply back with a different email address and name saying that they tried to send me some pictures but couldn't get it to work, but here is a link to the pictures if I wanted to check it out.

Well I get suspicious of the website because it's not a common photo sharing website and send the link to my IT guy at work. He checks it out and it points him to a series of surveys that you have to take in order to see the "picture". He said that it looked too malicious and didn’t go forward with it.

So without actually looking at the website I just reply back to the email and say "looks great, when and where can I meet you". I never heard a thing after that.
