Actually, I play this rig every show. Pedulla into LS-2, chain A animato, chain B Muff into Marshall head and speakers... How hard was that?
I can dupe it everytime.
I've got the ussr big muff and the akai deep impact, but i cant get close to this sound, its so massive.
Any ideas?
for hysteria he uses the big muff combined with believe it or not a digitech synth wah and i managed to get almost spot on the tone he gets
hope that helps
Ok, put up or shut up.
Clips, video, settings and recording chain or it didn't happen.
except the synth sound he uses an ibanez pedalwhatever man here a youtube clip where the guy does it I use a slightly different setting but I cant be bothered uploading it sounds like he put to much wah on n this vid I would dial it back
YouTube - Chris Wolstenholme Bass Sound (MUSE)
this one is better
YouTube - FULL EFFECTS Hysteria Bass Cover. Muse. Big Muff and Bass Synth
Problem is, that while the second video vaguely sounds like it, it is not it.
And when I say vaguely sounds like it, it is the scenario where you see a cover act, and he is using some pedals, and you are not quite sure what he is using, but it is close enough.
Did you listen to the post I made with my tone revealed? I came to this concluded tone after meeting Muse, and having a discussion with Chris. My board has most of the important pieces to reproduce this tone, and I have in no way shape of form ever included the BSW in any song. Most of the speculation surrounding this pedal is what it is used for. Seeing them live, and meeting the band, going over photos, concert footage, and sound clips (I have the hysteria solo tracks) shows nothing that the BSW is capable of doing, with the exception of "Sunburn" in the verse, using patch 3.
Here is my rig.
Signal path is as follows:
Pedulla Rapture RB4 Single Pick Up
Status JJ Headless
Into> Boss LS-2...
Chain A: Boss OC2>Human Gear Animato>HBE Hematoma> Prunes and Custard >Return
Chain B: Line 6 FM4>Deep Impact>Big Muff>BSW> Return
LS-2 out intoPeterson Strobostomp
From the peterson into an Electrix MoFX, into an Electrix Filter Factory into Marshall DBS 7400 > 4x10 and 1x15.
To create my tone, I used a 4 way recorded chain. Direct box split into Motu 828 MKII for clean, and output into pedal board. Through the board using the Animato in chain A and Muff in chain B, mic'ed the 4x10 cab at the lower left.
His recorded rig for Absolution was quite large, larger than mine and involved 4 heads, 4 cabs, multiple mic's direct ins and a vast array of pedals.
The synth track IS a Roland JP8000 Synth played by Matt Bellamy. Live, they play to a synth backing track and a click track. Wanna know how I know this? I have a recording of the in ear monitor mix that was recorded from a scanner on the UHF band they use.
No all synth pedals are the same. I had a very convincing Hysteria tone with the Deep Impact. I thought I was on the right track, but something was never right. Same with the videos posted by you. Convincing, but not right. You could be fooled to thinking it was correct without a point of reference, but I know better.
Part of my experiment entailed using Chris in the left ear, and me in the right while tweeking to make sure it was as close as you will ever be able to get live. I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that my tone is far more accurate than these youtube videos.
dude i didnt say I got it spot on either i merely said i got close and you did not have to get stuck up about it because i joined i this forum intending to help i did not set the guy who asked the question on this path because i wanted him to get it wrong i did it because i wanted to share my experiences in hope that they gave him a better idea to tackle his problem

I am not getting "all stuck up" about it. I was mearly sharing my experience in getting exactly the tone that was requested, and furthering the Talkbass communities knowledge base with the most accurate information.
When I said put up of shut up, I was joking around. Posting your tones and settings helps everyone, but you are not able to be bothered, so I commented on the two videos you posted, which IMHO are close, but no cigar.
I read that he uses a russian and US big muff and a wooly mammoth as his fuzzes... he also has bajillions of dollars of gear.

he also says in an interview he uses the animato distortion by human gear they are super rare though
sorry ok we're even haha could i ask you something? is the pedulla you have the one like chris has instead of the ones with two jstyle pickups if so where did you find one i cant find them anywhere not even on the pedulla site
