So many threads on this, HYSTERIA!!

Well, it has been an adventure, trying and disproving theories. Eliminating the Deep Impact was the hardest thing to accomplish. It is funny how something so simple can be so hard to figure out.

Oh well, 2 years ago this thread would be a buzz with excitement, but everyone who was interested has probably left here after all the same threads over and over and over. Not just the Muse threads (which were very popular) but the which compressor is best, should I use this distortion, or that distortion, and what is the best lay out of my pedals.

On top of that, the "OMG, this new pedal is going to change the game" every 5 days.

This forum is boring now. I think I realized this when Toasted, Markjazzbassist and other old heads stopped coming in here. Back in the day, attempting to get the perfect tone for cover tunes was a cool thing to do. It is funny that the snobs have all started coming out of the wood works regarding "make your own tone".

In the time I have been on this board, I have amassed a guide to the Deep Impact with tones to try, and others to dupe others songs. I have written, recorded, and supported a full length album, and worked at chasing what was the holy grail of tones, Hysteria. So many people are wondering how to get it, and ask the question so much. After meeting Chris Wolstenholme, and discussing it with him, I found the answer. After making a recording of the answer, I assumed the group would be so happy to finally put the question to rest, that I wanted many people to hear it and see it.

Since it is not true, I am out. Gone are the days of discovery, and wonderment. Welcome the new age of talkbassers.

Enough about you, can you tell me how to get Justin's tone without spending $6K on a Wal????

:D

So because we aren't rushing to praise you, the forum is boring now?

No, it has nothing to do with that. This place is dead anymore.

Sorry if that offends you, or puts you off, but there are some people out there, that are sick of talking about the new VT pedal, or which synth pedal will get me a square wave.

And Justins tone can be had easily. You need a Jazz bass, Ampeg amp and all the behringer pedals you can find.

You deserve props for putting so much work into what you've been doing, but to conclude that the forum is dead is way overboard.

I think it's kinda sad that you talk down to all the people that are doing the exact opposite of what you've been doing. Just deal with the fact that copying Chris/Justin/Tim's tone isn't what people are striving for anymore.

It's just a phase man - lighten up.

Seriously, is it worth it to spend so much time and money to replicate his sound? Even chris himself doesnt sound the same live compared to the studio....

Just get a fuzz that retains low end, boost mids and play it. No one in the crowd is going to think that your tone suck because its not the same as chris' in the recording. Most of the time they'll prolly be focusing on the vocals and your stage antics.

I think most people who want to replicate the sound want to be able to do it at a gig, with one pedal. As already discussed, this is impossible. What I've heard is very impressive, and serious props to you for doing it, but there's no way anyone is going to take that setup to a venue. (and, also already discussed, it would sound completely different in a venue anyway).

I totally agree with you on the VT hype though, it probably is the answer to pretty much everything dirt wise, but it gets a bit boring reading thread after thread here where everyone screams, 'buy a VT!" apparently regardless of what the OP has asked for.

So, I guess the revised question is: 'How do I sound like Chris from Muse? I have £150 and very limited board space to invest in this'. :smug:

Let me reiterate though, seriously well done on getting that tone, I know quite a few people here have spent comparible time and money chasing this particular 'grail', except they haven't got the results.

and then you denounce justin's sound. Keep workin' on those cover tunes from 8 years ago. I'm sure the other muse fanboys will worship you

No, I was making fun of the forum... Lighten up. As for the covers from 8 years ago comment, This was an experiment to see if it could be done. Attempt to belittle me all you want, but fact of the matter is I pulled off something the entire Talkbass community could not do, including you sandman. Only reason I was a little disappointed with the replies was that a year ago, everyone would have been enjoying the hunt, now people are too focused on other things. It's cool, you could care less about getting the tone perfect, I get that, but making snide comments is not what this community is all about.

Actually, I play this rig every show. Pedulla into LS-2, chain A animato, chain B Muff into Marshall head and speakers... How hard was that?

I can dupe it everytime.

I never once talked down to anyone. I said the forum is dead. The days of experimentation, and the search for some of the tones no one had are gone. Everyone gave up. Just to let you know, it is not all about getting Chris/Justn/Tims tone either... It is the lack of real experimentation we have now. Seriously, I just logged on, and found three of the most common searchable threads here (Pedal order, what fuzz and distortion help). How is everyone doing the exact opposite of me? I am working on a second full length album, getting ready to donate time to some benefit shows, and posted material that is at least a year old, for the benefit of the community...

I think everyone is looking at what I said the wrong way. I just wish this board was like it was a few years ago. MysticBoo, Toasted and other old heads getting together and doing pedal comparisons (Synth pedals vs synth pedal) or compressor reviews. Bassfuzz debuted, and gave everyone a real look at some of the tones you could expect to get.

Now it is the same n00bish questions and boring discussions on "what pedal should I get". I guess maybe the forum has given me all it can. I mean, even the classifieds are really boring anymore. I used to find 5 things I wanted to buy everytime I logged on here, and now I find myself looking over pedals and gear as if it was not even there...

This is a new era, but the rules are the same. Buy a Jazz bass, or a Sadowski, add an ampeg and buy a VT and a Musket. You are now a talkbass god.
