I keep it simple. We gig about once a week.

Backpack:
30' instrument cable (primary)
Power strip
Nalgene bottle with water
jacket or sweater

Gig Bag:
P-bass
cheap tuner
10' instument cable (backup)
2' speakon to 1/4" speaker cable
small leatherman-type multi-tool (never had to use it)
small Buddha figurine to place on amp
dish towel for wiping the neck

That's it.

nothing, i use a duffel bag to carry all my crap.

you know, if you have enough empty bass cases, prop them up against the wall. they're great for storing clothes on

hmm...
this makes my case seem relatively empty.

i have two straps (i use click locks)
one just normal
and one with my wireless bodyback taped to it.

and that's it.

everything else goes in a gig box.
(cables, picks, strings, earplugs, headlamp, extra power adapters, electrical tape, gorilla tape, my ebow, screwdrivers, leatherman, wirestripper/cutter, etc... i just need to add some solder and a soldering gun.)

It depends on how you use your gig bag. I keep enough things in it for a practice or rehearsal where the amp is already there. One thing to carry in and out.

My gig backpack is stuffed full of stuff just in case something goes wrong at a gig.
