Some hard & fast rules for playing in a Blues Band

Real blues guys are Fender players. Strats and Teles for guitarists, P-Basses (with grungy flats) for bass players. Preferably all beaten to hell, with tons of mojo. ;)

Total BS. ;)

No name acoustic, pretty much constantly untunable, un-intoneable played with a broken off glass coke bottle neck is the essential instrument. (Willie Dixon used a doghouse.)

All the rest is just posing.

"I don't play no rock'n'roll y'all, jest da pure and natchell blues"
Mississippi Fred McDowell

I rest my gunny sack.

Willie Brown: Look at this old guitar here you been squeakin' on. I bet you saw this thing in a music store and bought it just because you thought it was beat up! Well you got it all wrong. Muddy Waters invented electricity.

When me and my band mates go out to play on the streets we take my acoustic, a $50 Fender that 3 of the tuning pegs have fallen off and been replaced. Guitarist's acoustic, a black Ibanez that the neck's broken off and been glued back on with gorilla glue and the bridge pulled up and was also glued back down, still intonates like a charm. A mandolin that was given to me by a 90 year old man when I bought a lap steel off of him for my dad to learn. An accordion that the drummer plays that was his grandfather's, and a washboard that we found in the basement corner of a house the guitarist used to live in.

Got up early one morning feeling great
Oh yeah I got up early one morning feeling great
Rent was all paid, and the air-conditioner was working
Rent was all paid, and the air-conditioner was working, baby
My woman never cheated, bought me a brand new Italian tailored suit
And we drove the Miata to the Hamptons, it was beige
Sun came up this morning
Oh yeah the sun came up this morning
Had a sensible breakfast of oats and some 100% organic honey

My kids got good jobs, making over two hundred grand a year
And they send over their driver just to take me shopping at Cartier
I got the rich over-educated white guy blues, baby
And I'm so happy I could stop seven or eight people from committing suicide with only my smile

Mellowinman you may have something here because if your life is that great then you are giving me the blues. only line I would change is Miata to the Hamptons? If you drove a Miata to the Hamptons they wouldn't let you stay :)

They say "write about what you know," and when it comes to people who have money, I really don't know much.

I guess I've been BUSTED.
