Songs that instantly make you cry

A few, and for personal reasons.

We very nearly lost our son when he was a baby. He was in a coma for three weeks. Tears In Heaven by Clapton and All Of My Love by Zeppelin both make me lose it.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd both bring up my late, beloved brother. I miss him terribly.

Clapton's Tears in Heaven because I'm fortunate that my son is alive, healthy and well.

'Mi Viejo' by Piero because it makes me think of my dad.

'Para Mi Madrecita' by Julio Jaramillo because it makes me think of my mom.

John Lennon's last single, released in 1980, just before he was murdered: "Woman". It was all over the airwaves during the weeks immediately following his passing.

It just about incapacitated me every time I heard it. To this day, it reminds me of the true love he and Yoko had for one another - and of how sad it was that he was taken out of this world, just as his personal life had finally begun to come together... :crying:

MM

The entire Double Fantasy album, any of the songs (even Yoko's) gets me choked up. I was bummed for weeks after John was murdered. "Just Like Starting Over" came on the radio while I was sitting in the dentist's chair 2 weeks ago, and it still hit me.

Wish you were here was the song that my dad would listen to nonstop right after his dad died, and it was one of only two times I have ever seen my dad lose emotional control. By some sort of transitive property it now has a pretty big effect on me too.

Also (and i know this might be cheesy) but the line from Donald Fagen's Maxine that goes "Try to hang on, Maxine" reminds me of my struggles of trying to hang onto a downwardly spiraling relationship with my first really serious girlfriend

I would have to say "My Funny Valentine" by Chet Baker, from "The Last Great Concert". It was recorded right before he died, and you can hear his sensitivity fighting (and winning) with his demons in every note he sings and plays. Gets me every time.

1. "Since I've Been Loving You" by Led Zeppelin is such a powerful song...I am uneasy whenever I listen to it. Something about hearing Robert Plant pour out his heart just gives me a melancholy of emotions, but in a comfortable way...it's hard to explain.

2. "Red Sector A" by Rush...I think it's about the Holocaust, which gives me tears just thinking about. It's not even that good of a song, and comes from Rush's down period, but still puts me on edge.

3. Beethoven's Piano Sonata no. 14 in C#m op. 27...so beautiful, I cry.

4. Bach's Cello Suite no. 5 in Dm.
