I feel you. I'm the same way although the army base i was born on is still open. By the time i started first grade (in germany) i'd already lived in Alabama, Texas, and Kentucky.

So many place names in England end up in pop songs that we routinely listen to this side of the pond. I always marvel at all these places I've never heard of or been to. I'm a big Squeeze fan, but I'll always hear that reference in a new light now, knowing there are actually people there.

Bernie Taupin used to inject a lot of English place names into Elton John songs. Fascinating stuff.

Also "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" mentions a few places. Actually many Jimmy Webb songs are about a place like "Galveston", "First Hymn from Grand Terrace", "Wichita Lineman", "Campo de Encino", and "Jerusalem".
