Gotta love the quick response from the company. Thanks so much. My next (and hopefully final) stumble is how to set the Micro Pro so that when switching patches, the device (C4) defaults to bypass. I found online instructions for the original Micro, but that method (holding left button/alt) simply wants to rename the patch instead of toggling device mode.

Edit. I've got it. I was hoping for a global option or setting in the micro to default to bypass. But I obviously don't understand midi yet. I need to tell each individual preset on the DMC to start up in bypass. I'm getting there.

P mode you’ll need to program everything out, as it’s meant to be used as an easy way to recall presets on multiple devices. Scroll mode holding the left switch will switch between bypass and active preset searching on the C4 when using the C4 driver for scroll mode.

If you're only switching presets, your setlist app might offer the ability to send (multiple) MIDI commands when you call up a new "chart." I've used iGigBook, OnSong, and Setlist Maker to manage presets in a Helix pedalboard w/ some combo of FI and/or C4.

With rare exceptions, my "charts" for a song are just a page with song title (and sometimes key/tempo info), otherwise blank. Songs with significant patch changes during the song can usually be handled by Helix snapshots. (The v 3+ firmware adds a lot of flexibility, w Command Center.) But you can also use multiple charts for a song with more complicated patching. (However, the predictability and speed of patch switching can be challenging, depending on your app and rig.)

I'll usually use split setlist/song gig mode. Most of the night, I can just increment from one song to the next using song or setlist mode. And the setlist side allows jumping around quickly if the BL goes off the planned setlist order. (For gigs that work sets more freeform, I'll have some song "charts" that link to a handful of generic patches, as well as the band's full active songbook.)

The tablet can connect to the pedalboard with cable or bluetooth (via Yamaha wifi dongles in my case). And I've played with using a footwitch to turn pages on the iPad, but I've decided I generally prefer the more streamlined version of touching the tablet screen to flip to the next page or to jump in the setlist.

HI Quatschmacher,

Do you know if there is some "how to set up" guide for TouchOSC to work with C4 Synth? I just installed TouchOSC and have no idea what needs to be done. Do I connect C4 to my phone via USB or jack? Do I set up someting in TouchOSC? If you would be willing to point me to a right direction, it would be awesome as I am lost.

You need to create your layouts on a desktop and then sync them to the phone (either wirelessly or via a cable).

To use your layout with the C4, you connect a USB cable from your phone into the C4.

Have you joined the Hexler TouchOSC forum/Facebook user groups?

Thanks, I wasn't aware there is a Facebook group or forum for touchOSC, will definitely check it out.

Thanks so much for this. I had tried diving into this a couple nights ago and got nowhere. Way over my head. I'm still determined to learn.

In the bands I'm in, I run sound, lights, video, all the recording editing, etc. But this midi stuff has me somewhat stumped. All the aforementioned activities frustrated me at some point, so I won't give up. I did start to have some luck with the MIDI Commander app. Much simpler for my uninformed brain.

But in regards to the C4 pedal itself, this thing is a godsend. I was searching for simple octave pedals to cover ground with a new group that I just joined. I stumbled upon the C4 and my synth addiction is now quite fierce. The customization that Source Audio has provided is unreal for even double this price point. I re-wrote all my set list notes to the corresponding C4 patches.

I'm hoping to record my gig tomorrow (multi-track and video) so I can have some C4 snippets to add to my personal catalogue.

Has anyone had trouble keeping a dmcMicro connected to the C4? I followed the setup video online and had no trouble getting the micro connected and working, but I go back to my pedalboard after moving it to the gig location and the micro does nothing with the C4. Only thing that changed was powering off the board and moving it, in a case. Not sure what to do with this.

I occasionally do need to power cycle both devices to get them to see each other. It happens frequently enough that every time I power the board I check the dmc first thing. Happens with 2 dmc and 2 C4s I have. However I never had trouble getting them to work again after 1 or 2 tries.

Are you switching the dmc to host mode?

Anyone here use the C4 with a wireless setup? Waiting on delivery of a Shure GLXD16.. didn't think about checking compatibility. :nailbiting: :roflmao:

The C4 has been awesome in live situations. I've been able to go from 10 pedals to 3, not missing any of the other boutique pedals I used to haul around. I'd be really bummed if it doesn't play nice with wireless...

Why would the C4 (or any pedal for that matter) not be compatible with wireless? Are you worried about some sort of powering or signal level issue?

Considering some wireless units have had issues with active basses (I ordered the GLXD to avoid that), I didn't know if anything regarding the C4 may affect the wireless signal - interference etc. Since they are both digital, I was just curious if anyone found issues further down their chain. The BL made the decision for us to go wireless (whole new ball game for me), I just want to make sure everything is gonna work after forking over that loot, lol.

Wireless systems not always working with active basses is mostly a signal level issue as I understand it. I guess it doesn't hurt to check but from first principles I can't think of what sort of problems you are anticipating as possible.
