Is there a way for the pedal or the software to normalize the volumes between patches, just as a slight assist?
- each voice in a patch is set to do whatever it's going to do and has whatever gain and balance settings, right
- software could emulate sending a sine wave through at like our open A 55hz
- calculate what the relative levels would be across a set of EQ bands
- pick a band or two where the most audible loudness and power lives (low mids?) and level every patch so that band hits the same DB level on the output

Possible? A usable approach? I realize it wouldn't be perfect.

We discussed this internally after we discovered that some presets were very loud. It is not easy and risks messing up presets. If we encounter a presets that is way too loud, we lower it manually. This it the best we can do.

I’m not sure everyone is fully appreciating how much they are getting in this one little pedal! I’ve been dreaming of a pedal like this since I was a nerdy teen. It’s absolutely insane how much is packed into this thing. The cloud feature is what I consider a massive cherry on top. Try a preset, turn the gain down and you’re done! It’s crazy you guys at SA should have to monitor every preset people share.

Maybe you could curate a “best of” section that you police the levels on, but I would never expect it.

Always good to be innovating, for sure. But seems like the pedal has been programmed to its knees! I browse at a low volume. If I like something I’ll edit it.
Oh sure, just trying to think around the issue that people have all the time with multiFX - balancing patch volumes has been the reason I have gotten rid of every single multifx/presets pedal so far.

EDIT: I will fully admit it's been sort of like a toddler just throwing the blocks across the room when his castle doesn't come out just right, but still.

Anyone here compared the C4 to the Boss SY-1? I know they are totally different. Mono vs poly tweakability etc. But overall quality of sound and user interface which one do you prefer and why?
I will not comment on subjective things.
However, we have looked at the waveforms on the SY-300 (square, saw and sine). While they are polyphonic, they are not clean waveforms such as is true of the C4. There are strange harmonics in the SY that should not be there and it gives the oscillators an unnatural buzzy sound (less on the sine, but more on square and saw). It is almost as if its having trouble identifying the correct note in the face of harmonics. In the 300 you can isolate things and see this and compare against the C4. With the SY-1 its not clear, because the oscillators cannot be isolated. I suppose one of the advantages of monophonic pitch detection is the ability to quickly pick out the fundamental from a field of harmonics. We have seen this on a scope and heard it. Any of you can do this too. It is a very objective thing.
As with almost everything, there are tradeoffs that users should experience and see what they like.

You can sort the presets by the number of "likes". This will give you a sense of the "best of".

Yeah, there's a lot going on here and of course everyone will have a different idea of what's useful or not.

The interface has been as good or better than some I've used with pedals. The crowd-content is really nice and I expect to see 'more serious' patches float to the top and some of the 'I did it because I'm goofing' stuff start to fade away (new pedal, new users trying stuff out).

Again my working flow will be to try the preset in private and bring down the volume to close to unity...then try it again with my stage rig and re-tweak it as needed. Should end up being pretty painless.

The only reason I suggested an adjustment to the alt button is that it seems do-able given there's already some programming there to make it active for 6 seconds. Coming up with whole programming 'schemes' seems less tenable for Source Audio's team to implement.

Intelligent Volume Control (IVC©®) would be a fun one to think around and get up and running but without even looking at it, I would guess it's a resource hog for any live music situation.

This is what I started out with. Pulled through the first 8 pages or so and grabbed the stuff into my library that I thought sounded decent to start.

BTW, I your Boston Phaser is a really nice (fairly mild/smooth) patch. I've already got a place where I think it will be a good fit.

Absolutely + 13!! Long time Dream come true in a shiny affordable box. This is the coolest product to me since the Ensoniq Mirage! Anyone remember that? Beuller?

Browsing at lower levels is certainly fair warning and word to the wise, if there is a sound I like or can use I burn and then adjust to my needs.

I remember when the ESQ-1 was the board to have. Also, WAY back in the day, I needed a keyboard and a high school friend offered up hers, which was bought for her for piano lessons. I never should have given it back and she didn't really care to have it back. It was a JUNO 106.

@rsmith601 Don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I have a request to add for the update wishlist. It would be insanely useful for us to be able to turn off individual steps in the sequencer to create more rhythmic patches. Think along the lines of the bassline in "Stand Back" by Stevie Nicks.

Been working on a bunch of patches for my various bands. After putting in a few dozen hours on this device, I gotta say, the C4 has earned a permanent place on the board. It has filled in a lot of gaps for me that the Future Impact wasn't bridging. Between the two of them, there is nary a synth sound that cannot be recreated with the right amount of effort.

Quick question for y'all- what controls do i need to mess with to get the envelope of a filter to close quickly? I've tried messing with the controls on envelope 1 & 2, but it still seems either too long or too short. If I hold a note out, it sounds like the envelope never fully closes, or takes a lot of time to close. I'm comparing it to a couple patches I made on the Manta, where I hit a note, the envelope closes pretty quickly, THEN the note continues to sustain. Hopefully i'm describing this correctly. I feel like I've twiddled all the right knobs, but not getting the results I want. Thanks!!

Envelope 1&2 are for the synth waves. For filter operation try using the stereo or mono input or mono or poly pitch and turn the envelope off for more expected results.
