Q for anyone who has a C4, or Roger, whomever is around: is there a way to make a gritty octaver sound (think filter off on the T16, or having the Tone over on the Mutron side in the Octabvre, I guess) but at the same pitch you're playing instead of down an octave? So, I could play open E1 and hear what I *would* hear out of my T16 if I were to play E2: a hairy synthesized {E1} - curly brackets to indicate the furry note there =0)

I've realized that tone is why I like an analog octaver so much, rather than the actual pitching down. I mentioned it over in the Broughton thread because his Synth Voice has a 'same octave' voice in it, but it's not gritty like I'd be looking for.

Thanks!!

Envelope 1&2 are for the synth waves. For filter operation try using the stereo or mono input or mono or poly pitch and turn the envelope off for more expected results.

Thank you for the tip- turning off the envelope made all the difference in the world. I figured I was missing something small, but significant, and I was!

Soooooo to have it function as an envelope filter, turn off the envelope part. I don't even have one of these but this kind of thing makes me think it could be too hard to work for me.

this sounds like it would be a very simple patch to make on the C4 actually. mono pitch with the right distortion setting and there you go. maybe add a filter/eq to flavor.

Analog octave down is a really different circuit than up. Down is OC2 style build from flip flops. Up is typically an Octavia style distortion. As I recall, we have one in the distortion section of the C4. That sounds like what you want. The Aftershock also nails this sound.

I think what he means is same pitch... is the same “timbre” as a octave down sound generated at same pitch rather than pitch shifted down Possible... Rather than fingering the positions an octave up to get the same note...

As the other guy said above, I don't want an octave in either direction, I want the note I'm playing to be the note that sounds, but with the same tone as if it were generated by an analog octaver. That would be like my favorite thing =0)

You can accomplish this by using one of the C4's "Sine" voices and playing with the "FM" parameter or with a "Monophonic Pitch Shifting" voice, set without any +/- octave interval, and adjusting the "Filtering" parameter.
Most of the "OC-2" presets from the community use either or a combination of these voices to get that synthetic voice.
If you use a Sine wave voice you'll have to apply some sort of envelope to it.

...seems like starting with the various OC-2 patches and fussing with them would be the place to start with that pursuit to me. But I do understand the desire to play where the 'notes are' and not have to play everything up an octave would be desirable. I always hated that the original OC-2 didn't track the lower half of my fretboard.

Another project for me was triggered by @rsmith601's comment somewhere else...I hadn't even thought that I could use the C4 as a volume swell pedal.

I'm currently using a Slow Engine (Slow Gear clone)... I wonder if I can get it to do what I'd want. Right now I run the Slow-Engine out front of a crossover pedal then get volume swell on clean lows and effected (fuzz/enveloped) mids and highs. Hrrrrrm.

Try the "Swell" option under Envelopes. It works really well imo and a few of the ADSR options also do volume swells.

I was considering the Slow-Engine myself for a while. Then found I found out about the Malekko Sneak Attack which was definitely on my GAS list, and then the C4 came along and basically has all of those options on board if you're willing to tweak them out.

Yeah, I've had a few things over the years...the Slow Engine has been on my board because it works just as well (and cheaper) than the Slow Gear, and the footprint is just about right for a one-trick pony. I also have a VFE Bumblebee; it's a funky optical compressor into a volume swell...harder to use but does some interesting stuff...it also appears to have asymmetric swell.

The real secret will be if I can combine it appropriately in the C4, since one of my main uses is in front of my split-signal Fuzz into swept filter. Assuming I can set up one clean voice with that and then a second voice to filter that also does this. That may come close to replicating things.

Guys, I need some help...
I acknowledge that this thread is TL:DR ... and I plan to go over it when I have some time. BUT...
I just sold my Manta and Neuro Hub to pay for a C4. I'm shipping them out today. The C4 arrives Friday.
The problem...

I have a gig on Saturday afternoon and I just found out that I need a filter for at least one of the tunes (Boogie On Reggae Woman).
I'm not going to have a lot of time to experiment with the C4 before the gig.
I need to find and audition a couple of good filter sounds (or a synth-bass-y kind of sound) for that tune.
How can I do that quickly and with minimal fuss?

(anticipatory sigh of relief)
