The knobs just pull off. I have replaced the knobs on my Source Audio pedals with various screw on knobs (silver Chase Bliss knobs on my C4):

The only SA knobs that are hard to replace are the Encoder types found on the EQ2 and larger units (Collider / Ventris and Nemesis). I had a kid steal mine from my EQ2 a few weeks ago...he was a wild halfling who escaped his parents, snuck onto the stage and went treasure hunting!

I'm just wondering how you are selecting the presets/patches of the source audio pedals? Are you sending MIDI commands to the board from an external source? That is something I am trying to plan out with a new pedal board that will have the C4 that I presently use and probably a couple more series one pedals.
I have a computer in my "live rig" that I use for sending scene commands to my Neuro Hub then to my SA pedals. All my MIDI capable pedals are connected to the Neuro Hub as well as a USB hub for ease of programming. Currently I have C4, Spectrum, Bass Ultrawave, AfterShock & Zoom MS60B. I also have a Panda Future Impact with an Alesis V25 mk1 midi keyboard for key bass and synth sounds.
That sounds like a great setup there. Do you find that the Panda FI does some things that the C4 doesn't? Or maybe easier?
Both are fantastic dream machines for me but I find the C4 easier to be creative and play bass with so it is my main squeeze for that reason. It is a matter of playing style and expectations where the FI glitches (so has every other MIDI bass system ever) the C4 can do something musical at least to my ear, I can play the C4 almost like a Buchla synth coaxing the unexpected at times.
The FI since it does accept MIDI is an excellent key bass and there is a nice library for those sounds. I do not find the FI as user friendly but I am getting more familiar each time I dive deeply. I have problems understanding the signal flow of the FI because am unsure about the hard but unseen connections. I am getting back into my electro geek roots with a B2600 so as I learn that it may help me grok the FI better.
I currently use a Boss ES-5 as my primary midi /patch controller. However, my time with the ES-5 is nearly done. It’s a great piece of kit, but I don’t need / use the loop switcher functions any more and I’m contemplating a dedicated Midi controller. A SA Soleman or Morningstar MC6 will do a slightly better job than the Boss unit in this regard.
I have 2/3 pedals directly attached to my midi chain (EQ2, Nemesis & Collider). So these are directly controlled via Midi.
I have 5 SA pedals attached to a Neuro hub. This means that I can control each of the 5 pedals via Midi as separate entities or as a collection via the hub’s scenes. Hub scenes are easier to program and faster to implement. One CC or PC command sent to my Hub can set up any or all 5 devices, as long as I have a scene saved for that particular combination. The hub has 128 scenes available. I tend to save my most common load outs as Scenes. So It’s a very flexible set up
My most used patch on my ES-5 literally sends out 2 midi CC’s to my H9’s and 1 PC to my hub, which invokes a scene that calls specific patches on my C4 (an OC2 patch), an overdrive / muff on my Ultrawave, a quad chorus on my Lunar, an optical compressor on my Atlas and a xerograph patch on my Spectrum. All of these are in bypass and are engaged individually using either the stomper switches on each device or re-mapped ES5 buttons (I can double tap the patch button, remap the mute button and remap the bank buttons).

This may have been asked already (I didn’t want to read 163 pages), is there a way to get a clean defined chorus sound without any synth engaged?

So I'm perhaps the world's most slothful C4 user. Back when the pedal came out I downloaded a few filter based sounds, created a couple of my own, and an octave effect. Over the next year I added a couple more filter sounds and a few swells and other things. Then I pretty much stuck with what I had. This year I added a sub-octave (like a Meatbox). But truth be told I'm not very active in adding or creating patches. And I pretty much only used 3 of the patches that I had on the C4 with any regularity.
BUT... Since I'm playing in a funk band I thought I'd organize my patches better so I'd have an easier time remembering what was where. I put my filters into slots 1-10, pitch based stuff into 11-20. Thus far if it doesn't fit either of those it's in 20+ (only one item there).
This made it much easier for me to try out different filter sounds on particular songs, and last night I used one that I've never engaged live before and (EHX Bassballs Modded, for those interested) and it KILLED!
I am reenergized and will probably do some surfing of the patch library to see what's been added in the past few years LOL.

Hey y’all, joining the club here soon, super excited to start getting into the C4. An artist I MD for wants to go sci-fi so I really can’t imagine a better option. I had a question about powering the C4 (though I’m sure I’ll have more questions when I get the pedal). I know it uses 165 mah so I was planning on plugging it into a power supply’s 300 mah output. This should be fine right? Like no reason to specifically use the power supply it comes with correct? Thanks!
This is my newly put together SA board now I'll I need is a spectrum if it can fit and another hub, maybe...

I’d venture you also need a Collider - can really add some wondrous things to C4 sounds. Even if you don’t want washes of massive reverbs or long delays, a short plate delay can really fatten up a synth sound.
I've been thinking about that but most of the stuff I play doesn't really call for it. Plus I don't think I'll have room on my board for it...
Do you need a Spectrum if you have a C4? I was under the impression the C4 did everything the Spectrum does and more (Spectrum patches certainly work on the C4). Unless you had a specific reason to stack them?
I think the common use of a Spectrum at the end of the chain is filtering distortion from Aftershock and Ultrawave. If your board only uses a single input/output of the C4, it's possible to route it back into the C4 to handle that, but otherwise a Spectrum is the best choice.
Having both a C4 an Spectrum adds a lot of flexibility to your chain same as having an Aftershock and Ultrawave.
I've probably said it before, but I love the strategically placed giant foot-control knobs.
