source audio c4

Have you tried just creating a simple preset that just routes your clean Input 1 -> Output 1 and Input 2 -> Output 2? Make sure both loops work independently and in series. Once you have that working you can try adding some synth effects. The preset you posted earlier only had routing for input/output 2, so I don’t think any signal would have passed through input/output 1.
Agree with this. Start with a very simple and clear routing.

Thanks but early days atm, as I don't know yet what can actually be controlled via ableton and in turn, what can be mapped to extra footswitches.
First step will be able to switch presets on/off, either on screen/or footswitch.
Later I can look how to build this into automation within ableton clips.
Down the line, how to adjust parameters of C4 presets, by methods mentioned above.

I don't want to buy into morning star, a hub, connectors, etc. My pedal board is nicely sorted for now.

Ive invested more into ableton and new band is making interesting music utilising the software. I was aware of potential but not practical steps. I've now got some reference to work on..... :hyper:
Wait. This is a thing we can do nowadays?! Do any of you do this, and does it work reliably well?

A band I'm playing for later this year uses backing tracks for harmonies and synth stuff. It would be trivial to add a midi track to send me patch changes in real time.

I think I’ve cracked it!!

Had a go with some super simple presets, as suggested, just to get the hang of routing, and all of a sudden everything was working as intended. Had a bit of additional help from Niko via the support email and everything seems to be going smoothly. I’ve even been able to tweak an existing community preset to work with just In/Out2 as desired before work.

It appears that you just shouldn’t ever mess with the Output Balance if you’re only using one of the outputs, as that might impact the sound and/or routing in unexpected ways. It also appears that my global routing option was previously reverting to Auto Detect every time I changed presets, but doesn’t anymore, and is staying permenantly in Dual Inputs 1+2. Maybe there was a power cycle needed to make that change permenant?

Either way I’m over my funk and really excited to get stuck in with making some crazy sounds. Thanks all for the time spent in helping me out!

I did say not to touch the output balance on two occasions. Also did say to change the output routing via the global menu so that it always defaulted to the dual input state.

Glad you’ve got it all working now.

So the output balance thing is completely my fault - I must have misread your initial comment or missed that entirely. I will say that I had been trying to make that global routing change but for some reason it was changing back to the default every time. Either way it’s working now so excited to get tweaking.

Awesome update! The C4 is such a great tool for learning a challenging subject. Thank you for diving in!!

Forgive me, this is a very big thread.

It’s July 2023. I have become intrigued with this pedal. The only thing I use these days are an iPad and an iPhone. No home computer at the moment. Besides, the pedal itself, what precisely do I need to get in order to download and create presets, and have a larger preset library than the pedal has?

Keep in mind that I don’t use midi normally and I would have to know precisely what sort of camera adapter people are talking about. I get the impression that the DMC micro is better than the source audio unit but I have not read the entire thread.

Thank you very much for having mercy on me.

For simplicity, and because I'm cheap ;) , I use the Midipad 2 app. $2.99 I think, and go into the Source Audio Hub to pull up presets on the C4. I used to just go straight into the C4 using the iphone camera dongle, around $30 , but an iOS update seems to have disabled that function. An inexpensive laptop would be a good investment for editing and arranging your sounds though. It's extremely simple to set up and recall presets this way. And, it's probably the least expensive route to go. Hope this helps.

Hello all,

I’ve tried and seemingly failed OR what I want to do is just not possible…

I have used my C4 as my -1 Octave pedal for a while now and have tried multiple times to create a low threshold where it will not generate the octave if I’m playing anything lower than open A string. Is this possible? If so, please assist with the steps I may be missing.

Not possible on C4, I’m afraid. (This is possible on FI via its mod matrix.)

Hopefully this is a better worded set of questions.

I recently got a number of series one pedals. I am a bass player. Gigging for about 37 years. I’m not a stranger to editing parameters on a physical device, or a graphic representation, such as the desktop editor. I have been using a quad cortex, so I am definitely not a Luddite.

However, I am essentially a complete neophyte on MIDI. Also, I believe that the questions I have are so simple in nature that they are not covered by the FAQ board discussions that I have seen on forums or in the user manuals.

Essentially, what I would like to be able to do is to create and store presets on individual pedals, that I can access via the switches on the units themselves, or by some kind of external switch switch or other device. I don’t know that I would actually need to access more than six at a given gig, but it might be nice depending upon the situation.

#1 So, the first question is, can I replace the existing presets in the first six slots with ones that I create myself or grab from the cloud? ~ I didn’t see a way to rearrange the order of the presets, so I’m wondering if I need to just delete the first six presets, load the presets I want to win those slots, and then, if I want to still retain the factory presets download them from the cloud and put them in slots further down the line. Essentially, that’s what I’d like to be able to do.

Next up. Although I see the advantage of being able to create scenes with the various pedals I have, perhaps connected through your hub to something like the soleman (if I’m getting all that right), very often I’m just going to want to bring one or two pedals to a gig. In those cases, it would be nice to have a switcher that could allow me to access more than the six presets available on the device via the switches.

#2 What kind of MIDI device/switcher will need to use that can handle changing from pedal to pedal to scroll through the presets of each unit? I’m really looking for something that once I set it up can be plug and play and that I don’t need to reprogram it every time I decide to physically switch what pedal configuration I’m bringing out.

Next. Very often what I’d like to be able to do is use a switcher or some thing they can let me choose which device it’s looking at, find the preset on that device that I want, and then just select that one on that particular device. Then maybe move onto the next one. It would be great if I could set up scenes on that same device, but often I might just want to grab some thing like the C4 out of the whole bunch and change the preset on the fly.

#3 so the question is what kind of device do I need to use in order to do what I described above? Is the soleman able to do that? Are there third-party switchers that are better for the applications I’m looking for? The MorningStar six pro did look interesting.

#4 It looks like the C4 and the spectrum and the ultra wave bass all have 128 internal preset slots. However it looks like the lunar phaser doesn’t and I’m not sure about the aftershock. For those petals that don’t have the extra internal slats do I need to use a hub for those? Does something like the soleman have the capability to store those?

#5 Last, but not least. I don’t on a computer at the moment, but I do use iOS devices. My telephone only has the lightning jack, but my iPad has a headphone jack as well. With the current state of the software am I able to use that headphone jack to access the neural editor and make changes on my devices? Likewise, what exactly do I need to use to connect my iPhone to the neural editor and make changes on my devices? Is it the camera adapter now which one?

Thanks a ton

Ivan

Once a preset is loaded, and a few tweaks on the (pedal) knobs are made, can you save those tweaks without a phone/computer?
I.e. from the pedal itself?
Yes. Set the pedal into “preset mode” via the global menu in the desktop. Then you’ll be able to long press the footswitch to store edits.

Just FYI: I like having 'long press' for the footswitch set to jump between presets 1-3 (green led) to 4-6 (red led). You still use the 3-way toggle switch to choose the specific preset, but I find it easier than the little button on the back of the pedal.

Lots of choices in these pedals! :)

True. That’s how I have mine set, but I also have it connected to a MIDI controller to get access to all 128 presets.

I have all my SA pedals set that way as well with my main sounds on the first 6 in case I don't take my 'puter. I keep a 3x5 card with the 6 for each on my SA pedals for reference.

Any tips for consistently/reliably using this feature? I find that I have to try several times before the C4 "figures out" that I'm wanting to switch banks rather than save a preset.
