Alright C4 hive mind. Since I'm still waiting for my C4 to show up at my door, I'll need to rely on you lovely people to dig into this for me because my curiosity is killing me. I believe that the C4 has frequency modulation in a rudimentary sense (exponential FM for brash textures, and dissonant effects). But can it do actual linear FM synthesis? I'm looking for true FM synthesis, i.e. modulating one sine wave with another sine wave in a controlled way (so the pitch doesn't have to be dissonant), and modulating the modulator with one of the envelopes. Is this at all possible on the C4? @rsmith601 care to chime in?

I asked about this a few months back. There is a detailed response from Roger further up the thread. The FM knob is basically the mod depth for envelope to FM amount. It does appear to be linear as the pitch doesn’t shift upwards as it would with exponential FM. I made a couple of FM bass patches if you check my patches on the Neuro preset site. There are so many great pedals out there, the switch has often become a deciding factor for me.

Not soft touch; it clicks, but isn’t too resistant. If it bothers you, why not get a MIDI controller that has soft touch switches and use that to operate the pedal? I can heartily recommend the Morningstar MC6 and MC8.

My DMC Micro came yesterday. Followed the instructions, updated the firmware, plugged the two together. Everything works.
Simple, easy, functional.

@BurningSkies I plan to explore the distortion on the C4 more deeply. I've never really found a use for dirt in my contexts/sonic sensibilities, but always think "well, I might find a use for it..." so I'm open to try, then compare it with my Hookers Green.

C4 definitely knocked the Mooer Tender Octave off my board. Great little pedal, but unnecessary now.

I saw you bought the Micro but already owned the 3XL? Any idea if the 3XL Gen 3 is now working with the C4?

I just got my C4 yesterday, saw a video that said 'all Gen 3 will support the C4'...and bought a used 3XL late last night.

EDIT: From Disaster Area's site, latest firmware does support C4.

Soft touch is a misnomer, it was the name of an aftermarket relay bypass kit. What your really asking for is for a pedal with a SIngle pole, single throw momentary switch with relay bypass, and that there’s no mechanical clicking from the switch.

all of the one series pedals have the option of either relay true bypass or buffered bypass, to do this requires a SPST momentary switch, but on the single button pedals, the switch has a mechanical click, on the 2 button pedals, there is no click. Some users prefer the click so that there’s physical confirmation that the switch has actuated. You will have to ask @rsmith601 the reason why why did some so and some without, I cannot remember the exact reasoning.

I remember Roger discussing this and I can say for sure that the reason the 2-button pedals are clickless is because of the tap tempo functionality. I don't remember if there is some functional reason for the single-button One Series pedals having a click or if that's simply what they started with and have kept the line consistent.

Yep. Gen 3 is all good. My DMC 3XL was gen 2, so I was SOL.

We are getting more stock on Monday or Tuesday. Prymaxe should get some a few days after that. Very hard to keep up with the demand.

Here is my search about the C4 midi sync issue :
As i told you before when the DAO tempo is View attachment 3641933, C4 tempo is View attachment 3641932 .

I compared helix, mobius and C4.
You could heard helix and mobius manage the midi sync as well but not C4!
C4 is driffting appart wich isn't musical.

What do you think about that?

How do the pedals follow each other? Are they all connected in series or do you use some kind of MIDI splitter? Have you tried switching the order? The reason I'm asking is because I've read that long MIDI chains can mess with the signal.

The C4 only takes MIDI over USB, so can’t be daisy-chained like a regular MIDI connection

Wouldn't that depend on the MIDI/USB host someone is using to convert MIDI to USB? The Disaster Area Designs seems to have both MIDI in and out so it could be daisy chained or am I missing something?

If you are using a Disaster Area as a MIDI controller then I assume you are sending MIDI in directly from the computer, so the Disaster Area is taking that MIDI clock signal and converting that information directly into the C4 and transmitting through to all the other MIDI pedals (in this case the C4 is always getting a direct/ non-chained signal). There wouldn’t really be a way to daisy-chain the C4 from MIDI unless you were only using the DAD controller (or other hub) at the end of a one way MIDI-through chain (so every other MIDI pedal was being used as a MIDI through for the clock signal and you were literally not sending a MIDI out signal from the DAD at all). Using a MIDI controller that way would be totally counter-intuitive though I guess it is possible if all the other pedals have MIDI through capability

With a source audio hub, you can. You can also use a midi box that can act as a usb host like the da micro.ghost. I did both (the hub works better)

I got it, I upgraded firmware to 1.60, I factory set it. I have a generic USB to micro cable adapter, not the one from Source Audio...but I assume this is a standard thing.

MIDI is new to me in this sense, so I watch YouTube videos on setup etc...but not sure what else I need to do to control the C4 presets. I have connected to PC via USB and set a bunch of presets...all working. Just want to use the 3XL to choose presets at this point.

Instead of setting the DMC’s USB to “MIDI” you need to set it to “Host”. There is a video that Disaster Area made that shows pretty clearly how to set up one of their pedals (the DMC.Micro) with the C4:
The process with the XL will be basically the same except that once it is set up you have an extra footswitch to utilize. Basically you have a “Device mode” where two of the buttons will scan through the presets you have put on the C4, then you pick one of these presets and save it into one of the DMC’s slots in “Preset mode”. Between that video and the 3XL manual it shouldn’t be hard to figure out!
