My initial question was related to how I perceived a difference in "slam" or "texture" of the deep, synthy sounds. In demos, the C4 seemed to have the upper hand. While there can be plenty of deep bass, I think the presets in FI are less "in your face".

Without using these on stage or for recording, I cannot say which would work best for me. What I hear from the demos, the C4 might be the (slightly) better option.

Sorry, it was my post was not clear. You were being perfectly clear and polite in your post and not saying anything bad. I was complaining about something I saw somewhere else that was frustrating. I was using your post to complain about it. I should probably not do that.....OK maybe I will one more time:
If anyone complains that the square wave on the C4 needs to sound more like a sin wave..... :)

I must admit, much of that went over my head. I have no idea which companies use which hardware types, other than that Dave Smith uses SHARC for the oscillators in the Pro 2 and Prophet 12.

I was in the room at Analog Devices when SHARC was born, and then a few years later when SigmaDSP was born. :) Super Harvard Architecture RISC Computer. Sigma came from Sigma Delta data conversation architecture.
Doing DSP work for 20 years at Analog gave me the idea for Source Audio.

I don’t think so, it’s very specific to Keith McMillan products if I remember correctly. E disaster area micro ghost, Kenton usb host, and midiplus usb host will all work with C4.

The SA website says the SA161 dual expression pedal is:
Dimensions: 10 in/25.4cm (Length) x 4 in/10.2cm (width) x 3 in/7.6cm (height)
Is it really that long?
I’d like to know if I can use the SA161 output 1 to control the C4 (when active) and output 2 to control an analog filter (when not using the C4). I’ve got some modular analog synth stuff that I love (IE) and it seems that the C4 would be a great addition especially if I can control both systems, when in use with the SA161. I realize that’s probably the idea but I need to be sure.
Can someone plz tell me what I’ll need to get started with C4/Neuro desktop thing? I just want to try out the C4 and then determine what peripherals I’d need.
Does one absolutely need a hub to have SA pedals communicate regarding settings in a preset?
I’m thinking C4 and some SA time based effect would be a great pairing.

The expression pedal is the same enclosure as a crybaby wah pedal. If you only have the C4 or your analog filter on one at a time. Yes you will only hear adjustments on the one device. But it’s going to be controlling both devices simultaneously if both pedals are on and setup for expression control. (You can disable external expression on the C4 on a per preset basis). As for the desktop editor, you will just need a usb mini B to A cable from the pedal to the computer, and have the editor installed. You can download it and view the offline editor windows for each one series pedal, for a good preview of what to expect. Hub doesn’t allow for communication between pedals, rather your midi controller sends PC changes to the hub, and the hub in turn, tells each connected pedal what settings to load on each pedal and whether or not the pedal should be on or off for that scene.

Technically speaking, you can do that, but it will have nothing to do with the C4 telling it what to do, and everything with how you program each pedal for a scene and the hub recalling that data via a PC message from your controller, or using the editor to change presets.

The DPC-5 would work if you are only using the C4 in conjunction with non SA pedals (which can be connected via the USB on the DPC, or Nemesis which has regular MIDI jack), but if you want a bunch of Source pedals you will need the Hub as most Source pedals don’t have standard MIDI jacks

Sweet. Thanx Sunbeast. OK that’s something to think about because many of the other SA pedals look pretty compelling.
I’m not much of a digital guy and have no experience with midi. I have owned a Moog (prodigy, 2 oscillator) and came up in a neighborhood that placed high value on R&B Soul G-Funk bass so that’s been a focus for a while now. I’m very happy with the core sound, OD-Fuzz etc. I have with my analog stuff and over the moon about my IE analog synth chain but all the rest of the analog synth stuff can go if the C4 works for me.
What really motivated me was the Mark Neary presets on YouTube, he gets it. Where I’m at nothing drives everybody crazy like a drum and synth bass breakdown, nothing. I wish the Rock guys could wrap their brains around that.

Oh hey sorry I just checked in. Man I thought anybody investigating the C4 on YouTube would bump into his stuff cause that’s all I was doing. As you know, many demonstrations or reviews though well intentioned can be downright silly and more options equals more silliness. I just wanna move people like only a sick synth line can. Just wait till the Homegirls get a load of this.
