Source Audio EQ2

View attachment 4056856 I've been using the EQ2 with a Le Bass for a while. I put it in the loop and use the blue volume knob to set levels between patches. It's working really well with the different channels on the Le Bass, they play well together. I've yet to get them talking to each other through midi but I'm sure that'll make the switching easier.

Im a little shaky with the phone, but, since you went first...I ran my coffee can 1/8 full of marbles sounding DarkGlass tubes X in the send/recv loop of the Le Bass. Just a minimal setup for my bass. Looper pedal for recording myself sometimes.

Okay, I’m sitting at the beach in beautiful Carpinteria CA., watching my kids frolic in the waves, sipping on a cocktail. Time to write a revue!
This little box is so loaded it’s ridiculous! It has allowed me to sell my Broughton HPLP Filter, my Zoom MS60b and my SA EQ1. The fact that I can have a HP on one end, and a LP on the other, and have eight bands of parametric EQ in the middle, is an absolute game changer!
Add in a dedicated HP filter, a hard limiter, and a noise gate that you can assign to every preset, and this is truly a must have for every board. Oh, and there is a tuner. And it works really well!
At the very least, you have access to 4 presets you can use, but I got the SA tap switch that allows me to toggle between 2 different presets for each of the 4 slots.
Programming is pretty straight forward on the pedal itself, but you can also deep dive on the Neuro app, even from a phone or tablet. So go get ya one, it’s a winner.
Oh, and cheers!
I was jealous by the word "beach".

My copy of the EQ2 arrived a few days ago. I have a birthday just before xmas...hence why I have it now and not in a few weeks time. Loving the pedal, having a stereo EQ is a first for me. I've made my first patch, an EQ sim of the clean side of a Sansamp BBDI. I've assigned the B/T bands to the midi expression pedal. I've just published it under "Sansamp BBDI" by gazzajagman...another first for me. Please try it out and tell me what you think?

For this pedal is it possible to set up a resonant low pass filter in the software (I know this part is possible) but then on the gig be able to sweep the corner frequency and q on the pedal, without the software, to dial it in for the room?

I guess you mean high pass filter to dial out rumble in the room. There is dedicated high and low pass filters but I don’t know if you can change them without at least a phone or tablet. You could set 1 of the 10 bands for that though, and change both frequencies and q on the pedal itself.

thanks, but no I mean a resonant low pass filter

OK, sorry. English isn’t my native language so I might not get everything.

Had to look up what a resonant filter was, and if I get it right it attenuates the frequencies at the cut off point, to enhance the effect, right?

What is the purpose of a resonant low pass filter?

It accentuates the frequency at the cutoff point, not attenuate. This is what alembic uses for their onboard electronics in their basses. The broughton rfe pedal has a resonant low pass filter as well as two other filters in it. The Fairfield circuitry long life pedal, which is what I am using now, can give you a resonant low pass, resonant high pass, or band pass filter. I was just curious as to whether this pedal could do it as well and how adjustable it is on the fly at a gig without your software handy

Yes, I meant accentuates. I read something about “attenuate” and just got it backwards... Carry on. ☺️

I have to say, this looks like an incredible product. The number one reason I am interested in getting an EQ at all is to accentuate some of the frequencies of my fender jazz and precision basses. I have a rig (Phil Jones) that reproduces my Sadowski, Jack Cassidy and upright fantastically, but my fenders need some help. I was very much interested in the empress, but it is nowhere to be found. The WMD looks interesting, and is a contender, but I’d like to test it. The EQ2 looks almost too good to be true! It looks to be an incredible product but again, I can’t test drive one without buying it. You’d be surprised at how hard it is to find bass gear here in Nashville. If I had to narrow my question down to a singular item it would be thus: has anyone tried to get a classic Fender jazz and or precision tone out of this thing? I’m talking both the lower end bearhug sound of James Jamison as well as the more mid sounding tones of Jaco.

Not sure how to answer that question to be honest. It's an EQ, it does almost all EQ things known to man, and otherwise there's no inherent color if you leave things flat. You'll likely not get the exact sound you're looking for, but short of buying identical gear those people use and mimicking their technique, I don't know what would get you closer.

Understood. I get around town quite a bit and I am almost always able to pull that kind of fender sound out of a given house rig, but I just can’t seem to do it with this Phil Jones rig! I can get a solid warm and fuzzy Duck Dunn tone no problem. It’s the more abrasive Jaco type sound I can’t seem to dial-in. I understand that this is more of a statement about the rig than my instruments, but since it so accurately reproduces the sound of my other instruments, I feel like the proper EQ is the answer. I was hoping somebody watching this thread might have attempted this type of sound, or accentuated a similar sound. In short, I think a boost around 800 Hz will do the trick and it just simply is not built into the Phil Jones head.

on a sidenote, I also play electric guitar and do a fair amount of home recording with electric and acoustic instruments. The EQ2 could be very beneficial to me for this purpose , so I’m definitely interested.

Can confirm it works wonders for guitar and recording situations. In fact, my EQ2 is now doing mostly guitar work in the studio where I've got presets that cover almost every situation with a few clicks.

I recently got the BOSS EQ 200 for (future) live bass situations. Not because the EQ2 wasn't satisfactory, but I needed another EQ for the pedalboard and wanted to see for myself if the physical sliders were more usable on stage. The Boss is certainly the less flexible pedal though since it can't do parametric EQ or all the extra band pass and noise gate stuff.

I did wind up picking up an EQ2 and it is very impressive. I am still playing around with it, but the options are amazing. The iPhone interface is great. I had wondered this: in a live situation, how easy is it to adjust freq, q, HPF without a phone or laptop. Answer? Very easy. I haven’t had a gig to try it out yet (thanks COVID), but I will be using it to dial out any feed back frequencies when playing upright bass. The EQ2 does a good job of making it easy to sweep. Just a note: as the computer/phone interface is great and a wonderfully visual way to make adjustments, especially in a recording environment, it is not required. The pedal works just fine lall by itself. The pedal interface is very user friendly dispute having so many options.

So maybe you can enlighten me what the difference is between the low and high bass guitar tuner settings in the EQ pedal?

High and Low pass "filters"(don't know where you got "tuner" from) are standard tools in the recording studio. I used them to remove extraneous noise muddying the sound. Some frequencies are wasted in a mix as most speakers won't relate them properly and so ruin clarity. I don't think they are as critical with bass cabinets but they will allow you to tighten you sound. High pass filters will be effective if you're not happy with your tweeters etc. THOSE ARE MY REASONS. Many will have other reasons and I'm sure they'll tell you in time.

Well, I got 'tuner' straight from the SourceAudio EQ GUI. It is the 'Tuner Instrument Range' drop-down box. I still don't know what Bass High and Bass Low mean here with respect to the 'tuner' function for a bass guitar. The guitar choice is easily understood.
