I haven't tried another pedal in front of mine yet, but IME, it can take very hot signals.

The clips for this thing sound very good, but (a) I don't really need more dirt and (b) if I did, multipurpose for guitar and bass is always a huge plus for me. Was it absolutely necessary to create two versions, and do you think either one translates to the other that well?

It is funny that you ask that. I used my OFD and B7K with my Gretsch Electromatic and it sounded great. Of course I had to tweak the EQ a bit, but the Rat and Tonebender models sounded really good on my guitar.

Between the guitars and basses we have in the office and those Bob has at home, we have seen no issues. Also, the SB2 input section has now been shipping to 1000s of customers across all of the various models. With that said, I will get the official word from Jesse, who designed this section of the pedal.

Well, there really are 2 key things that are different. First, the internal invisible EQ that Bob does on all of the effects is tuned to his ear for either guitar or bass. Tweaking the 3 band EQ can overcome this to make a bass version sound good with guitar as ZWK has noted. Second, (and this is really the biggie) the guitar version has a "voice" knob and the bass version has a "mix" knob. If you are going to use this for bass at all, then you want a mix knob for sure. Are you going to miss the voice knob if you don't have it? Probably not so much. It is really there to help guitar players have yet another parameter to tweak and geek. I suspect that bass players will have a slightly better time using the bass version with guitar than guitar players will have using their version.

Based on my experience with both the bass and guitar version of the OFD each version sounds best on their respective instruments due to the baked in shaping of the voices. That's before even talking about the clean blend and EQ.

Sorry, almost forgot this. Jon, our new bass expert owns and uses 3 different hot active basses (he did the OFD demo video). He has not encountered any issues. Jesse designed the front end with the intent to keep things linear over a wide input voltage range.

My go to place is guitar center. If they had it listed on the site I would have ordered one to try already. There are some small mom and pops and a Music Go Round but I'd hate have them bring it in on the off chance It will work for me.

I'm really intrigued but I'm worried about it handling the output of my bass. Its nothing against you. I've just been burned by almost every pedal I tried.

G&L's have an irresponsibly high output. I don't do much modelling. My genre sort of frowns on it so I have zero practical experience but I think something like this could solve a lot of problems I've been having.

Can anyone comment on how useable this pedal is into a DI/no-amp set up? How about if the highs are turned down in the dirt.

It held up great for me last week for a DI only set. The onboard EQ makes this pedal ideal for circumstances like this.

On another note, I finally found the low gain "Growler" tone that I have been chasing for years. I used the TS9000 setting with the following settings:

Drive: 10:00
Clean Mix: 10:00
Treble: Flat
Mid: 11:00
Bass: 3:00
Low Gate and output at unity.

It just growls. Just enough break up under my clean to give me what I want (At least soloed). I will find out shortly how it fits into a live mix. I'm so happy right now, I can't even explain it. I was looking at adding a Pork Loin or other low gain OD pedal. No need now as this bad boy does everything I need well.

No. I do have a B7K as my primary preamp/DI. Perhaps that masked the tone a little. With the EQ, you should be able to tame it without help from other pedals.

I just got the OFD today....didn't get to try it all that much yet....

zwkoch....you mention independent EQ settings on your "Growler" tone.....how do you idependently set up the EQ? I read the manual (albeit quickly) but could not find how to do this.....I'm really technically challenged....lol

How much power is that thing drawing? Like in reality?
With every comment I get more intrigued with this pedal.

But I have absolutely no idea of the midi stuff. Could you hook up a midi controller (pedal) and then have like 10 presets?
